PARENTS NEWSLETTER TERM 3, WEEK 1 27 July 2018 Tēnā koutou katoa Welcome back to Term 3! I pray that you all managed to stay warm and dry, finding time for fellowship with family and friends over the recent school holiday period. During this time, the building work at school intensified with the complete removal of asbestos and the commencement of work on external/internal frameworks and on new window units. A new Building Special Bulletin will be sent out next week. Term 3’s theme is God is Holy and Pure, with particular focus on the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. Additionally, this term we will be exploring places which are important to individuals, families and cultures, as well as places which have significance for all New Zealanders. This will include a trip to Government House and the Beehive! A continued focus will be our support of the David Tyler School in Uganda. In just two terms we have already fundraised over $3000… and this does not include the generous donations from individual families via the Give-a-little Page! Praise God for the generous hearts of His people. On the subject of generous hearts, Peter Ferrar - Principal of Cornerstone Christian School and leader of our Lower North Island Christian Community of Learning/Kāhui Ako (LNICoL), visited last term. During his visit, Peter gifted Maranatha Christian School (on behalf of the Cornerstone BoT) a large section of near new astroturf sufficient to cover the grass area next to the junior playground! Once installed (projected 2019) this area would be accessible to students all year round… wow! Please join with me in upholding Cornerstone Christian School in our prayers and give praise and thanksgiving to God for His wonderful works through His people. Looking Ahead… Next week, mid year Learning Conferences are being held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Further details are in this newsletter. I look forward to seeing you all then. Kia pai tō rā whakatā (Have a fantastic weekend.) Letter from the Board of Trustees

The BOT met last night and caught up on the building work programme, solid financial progress and heard about positive mid-year academic results.

We also had the opportunity to reflect on the success of last terms ‘Celebration of Learning’ which had a huge turn-out on a very cold winter night! It was great to not only experience the wonderful hangi that was provided by our Māori Whanau Group but to see that this, along with other fundraising for the David Tyler School has meant over $3000 has been donated. What a huge achievement! We are packing up the uniforms, felt books made by students last term and letters at the moment - and working on sponsorship for this.

This term we have our swimming programme getting underway which is something the students really look forward to. We also have Learning Conferences starting next Tuesday so please make sure you get yourself booked in for these invaluable conversations.

The building work is progressing really well and the contractors are doing things to a very high standard and having some lovely interaction with our students. All the children have been outstanding at managing themselves well around the building work - thank you for helping us with this. It will be great when all the work is completed.

The Maranatha Foundation Board fund the building work and this is a huge financial commitment, which is made possible by your attendance payments each term - thank you for your support!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Rohan Wong—BOT chair
