Our guest of honour was Alexandra Rickham, an inspirational athlete who has represented Team GB at three consecutive Paralympic Games, winning bronze in London and Rio with her sailing partner, Niki Birrell. Our Head Girls, Sarah Alford and Izzy Kinder, concluded the evening, reflecting on their time at Rosebery as their term of office comes to an end. Sarah and Izzy have been wonderful role models and have been central to so many of the key events over the last year, including the Jo Cox Get Together and our Well-Being Week. It has been a joy to work with them. I am delighted to announce that after a very rigorous process, Sophie Watts and Freya Hawken are to be our Head Girls for 2018. It was, as ever, an almost impossibly difficult decision and all the shortlisted candidates performed superbly. I know that the Deputy Head Girls, Ciara Sirkett, Sarah Atherton, Anabel Hindmarsh and Samantha Perren will also make a tremendous impact in their role as Inclusion, Well-Being and Community Ambassadors and all six students should be very proud to have been chosen by staff and peers to form the new Sixth Form Leadership Team. Return to school: key reminders School reopens for all students at 8.30 on Wednesday 3 January 2018. Please make sure that uniform is checked ready for the new term. We expect everyone to have black leather shoes, a blue or black coat, and no jewellery other than a simple stud in each earlobe. Please ensure hoodies, trainers and other jewellery are all left at home. As we reach the end of a very busy term, my warmest thanks to the staff for their hard work this year. We say farewell to Mrs Biggs in the Sociology Department and thank her for the energy, support and passion that she has shared with her students, particularly at A Level, in her time with us. I am very grateful to the governors for all their hard work throughout 2017 and of course, to you, our parents and carers for your patience and support this year. There are some very tired students in our community at the moment, as a result of their very hard work in and out of the classroom throughout this long term; they remain a joy to work with. I hope that the festive period affords you all some time to be with your loved ones. Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year! Ros Allen @RoseberyHT

Give Rugby a Try!

Sutton and Epsom RFC U15 Youth Girls, of which many Rosebery students are team members, won the Surrey Cup on Sunday! They have been playing matches over the last few months and this was the deciding match from the two pools of teams. The team were all amazing and played the Semi Final and Final in very cold, frosty weather and they had to dig deep to play so well in these conditions, only letting in one try over the two matches against formidable teams, including the 2016 winners. They are now one of the top thirty U15s youth girls teams in the Country. Should your child wish to give rugby a try, please get in touch via our website: https://www.suttonrugby.co.uk/juniors/

Christmas Concert Article by Lizzie McCaffrey, Year 13

On Monday 4 December we held our annual Christmas concert at Epsom Playhouse. This year a whopping 200

students participated as we had our first ever 'whole school choir' which sang a medley of songs from Les Miserables,

including some fantastic solos from across all the year groups. We also enjoyed the usual items from the orchestra

and Rosebery Singers, as well as some groovy tunes from Big Band and Broadway Band. Some smaller groups, such as

octet and flute ensemble treated us to a few Christmas songs (and Christmas jumpers!!). The Year 9 and 10 music

classes also got involved with a song each - the Year 9's had composed their own!! Both the matinee and the evening

performances were smooth, successful and thoroughly enjoyable and we can't wait for next year!

Young Voices It was a pleasure to walk through the Ashley Centre in Epsom on Wednesday afternoon

and hear the beautiful sounds of our Young Voices singing some festive favourites.

Thank you to all the students who took part.

The Music Department

Christmas Lunch Staff and students came together to enjoy their

Christmas Lunch this week. The canteen was positively

brimming with festive spirit. Carols were playing and the

students were singing along!

Enormous thanks go to our Canteen staff for the delicious

lunch and organisation.
