Under 11 Girls’ Football –CIS Victory

The CIS Girls U-11 Football team had their first game this past weekend against George Town Primary. The girls played well despite the heat, and won 3-1 with goals from Sofia W, Zoe C, and Jordyn B. Come out and support our team this Saturday, October 15th, at 10:00AM at St. Ignatius.

Under 9 and Under 11 Boys’ Football

The opening round of the CUC Inter Primary U9 and U11 football league took place last Saturday, October 8, with the Iguanas facing George Town Primary and securing all available points.

The U9s started things off with a dominant display against a young and relatively inexperienced opposition and were officially credited with a 4-0 victory following the application of the Respect (or mercy) rule. With the victory secured, the entire squad was given an opportunity to play for prolonged periods which bodes well for the rest of the season. Special mention to Chaz R for collecting four goals, but the best goal of the day came after Cameron M initial a winning move at midfield, flowing through Hayden K on the right wing and crossing expertly for Lucas V to sweep the ball into the net on the half volley. It was like watching Barcelona!

The U11 team then took to the field against a well organized George Town Primary team which defended exceptionally well. The deadlock was eventually broken when Liam H struck from long range with his left foot. That was followed shortly by a sec-ond for the Iguanas by Liam H whoswitched feet to drive a long range right foot shot into the back of the net. The scoring was completed when Chad M intercepted a pass at midfield, drew two defenders to him and slipped the ball to Jackson M to dispatch confidently past the diving keeper. George Town remained a threat and only good saves from Lachlan L and a goal-line clearance from Toby J preserved the clean sheet. As with the U9s, the squad all saw action and the quick passing and move-ment impressed the watching parents and friends in the stands.

A tough encounter awaits the boys tomorrow against St Ignatius – good luck!

Secondary Boys’ Football

After a bye week following their first game, the CIS boys football team has had two games in the past two weeks. The boys played their second game of the sea-son away at defending league champion St. Ignatius. CIS lost the game 2-1, but played an excellent match and took away many positives despite the loss.

In their third game of the season, the boys played against Hope Academy. Know-ing that they had a good opportunity to earn their first win of the season, the boys tried to apply constant pressure to the Hope defense. After creating many great chances, CIS finally got on the scoreboard midway through the first half from an excellent cross and one touch finish at the back post. The game remained 1-0 at halftime and in the second half CIS had at least half a dozen more great scoring opportunities, but the ball would just not seem to bounce in. The boys made sure to keep alert defensively, though, and the game finished 1-0 for CIS to get their first win and first clean sheet of the season.

Healthy Snacks

The Center for Science in the Public Interest reports healthy snacks are important to children, promoting good nutri-

tion, encouraging lifelong healthful habits and preventing diseases. Healthy snacks are especially beneficial for chil-

dren because they are still developing and healthy snacks can increase energy and ability to fo-

cus. Please consider packing snacks that will be beneficial to your child like fruits, vegetables,

healthy grains, or low fat dairy items. We understand that many of these guidelines are difficult

to maintain during the Halloween season.

Halloween for EC/ES Students

With Halloween falling on the Monday we return from October break, we are excited to celebrate with our students! Students may wear costumes to school in accordance with expectations set forth by the classroom teacher.

Please note that frightening costumes or costumes depicting violence are not to be worn to school. No full masks, no toy weapons, no blood, etc., should be an aspect of the costume. Please also note that appropriate footwear needs to be worn.

Appropriate costume ideas can include dressing up as a favorite book character, favorite animal, favorite food or object. Please also remember that elaborate costumes needing adult assistance should not be worn to school. Save scary or spooky costumes for evening trick or treating. If you are unsure of a costume, please check in with your child’s teacher.

We can’t wait to see the creativity on Halloween!
