• The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple-aptitude test that measures developed abilities to help predict future academic and occupational success in the military• Does not require that a test-taker with a qualifying score enlist

The PSAT/NMSQT• Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test

(PSAT/NMSQT) is a program co-sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC)

• A chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools

• Being administered Wednesday, October 10th at 7:40am at PHHS

• Registration is done online at

• The cost of the PSAT is $20.00

• Registration deadline is Wednesday, October 3rd.

Common Reasons for Taking the PSAT/NMSQT

What is the SAT?

• Curriculum based, similar to the ACT.

• The SAT includes four sections:1. Reading Test (65 minutes total)2. Writing and Language Test (35 minutes total)3. Math Test (80 minutes total)4. Essay (50 minutes total)-optional

• Total testing time is 3 hours (plus 50 minutes for the optional Essay.)

The ACT

• The ACT is a standardized college-readiness and high school achievement assessment

• The ACT contains five sections: 1. 45-minute English section

2. 60-minute Mathematics section

3. 35-minute Reading section

4. 35-minute Science Reasoning section

5. 30-minute Writing section (optional)

SSD-Testing Accommodations• Students with IEPs and 504 plans can apply for

testing accommodations

• Not all requests are approved

Advanced Placement (AP) Program

• AP courses are designed to give students access to rigorous college-level courses in high school to cultivate skills for an easier transition to college

• 85% of selective colleges and universities report that a student’s AP experience favorably impacts admissions decisions

• Course entails an AP exam (optional) around May to test the student’s knowledge• Certain scores (usually a 3 or above) in certain colleges and

universities may apply as college credit

Rotating Drop/Unit Lunch

● Students meet for 6 out of 8 classes each day.

● One class is “dropped” in the morning rotation, and another class is “dropped” in the afternoon rotation.

● Each class period is dropped once in a four day rotation. All 8 classes meet 3 times every 4 days.

● All students eat lunch AND at the same time!

● More time for student activities, extra help, programs, counseling, and everyone has common social time.

Morris County Vocational School: Share Time Program

Share Time are half day programs for specialized occupational training as part of a student’s junior and/or senior year high school program.
