Poem background

• The poem describes one day from the perspective of a shop owner’s son.

• The poem protests against the unfairness and racism experienced by many families who tried to set up businesses.

celebrating what? If the verb, what is being shown to get attention?) • Why add ‘End’?

• ‘Parade’s End’ is also the title of a book by Ford Madox Brown about English life during the First World War.

• Can you think of any reason the writer may have quoted this book as his poem’s title?
