Introduction The 7475T-6 operator interface is an excellent product for small to medium applications. The small size allows the unit to be installed in locations with limited space and the low cost of the unit makes it ideal for installations with limited budgets. Key features include the following. Easy to use: the integrated touchscreen combined with the state-of-the art ePro

Canvas™ runtime software allows for effective and efficient operations. Slim but robust: the 7475T-6 is very thin (less than 2 inches) and lightweight (less

than 2 pounds). This makes it the best solution for those applications that have tight space requirements or need a very lightweight solution.

Cost effective: applying a color STN LCD with QVGA resolution (320 x 240). The 7475T-6 offers a cost effective solution for operator interface terminals.

Powerful communication capability: the 7475T-6 provides serial ports and Ethernet communication. These two communication standards are the most popular ones in today’s industrial automation applications.

Connectors & Switches The location of the connectors and switches are shown below. The port labeled COM2 supports RS232 and RS485 communications simultaneously. Communications for RS232 are associated with COM2 and communications for RS485 are associated with COM3. A shunting cable is supplied with the unit to provide access to COM2 and COM3 from the physical port labeled COM2. Refer to section Serial Port Connectors for detailed information about the communication ports and shunting cable. Both the PS2 keyboard and mouse can be connected/disconnected while the 7475T-6 unit is powered-up without problems.

Connecting Power and Turning on the Unit The 7475T-6 requires 24 VDC +/- 15% power input. The current is 1.5 A, and the nominal power consumption is 15 watts. The DC socket location is shown in Figure 2.

Power and Ground Instructions The PanelMate ePro ES operator interface has been designed to withstand severe environmental conditions typical in industrial installations. However, certain extreme conditions, such as serious ground faults, have the potential to damage the PanelMate ePro ES operator interface or cause other damage. In all cases, the end user must ensure that the installation is protected from these extreme conditions and follows local codes and electrical standards and regulations. The following recommendations are intended to help protect the PanelMate ePro ES unit from damage due to current swells, ground faults, or ground potential differentials that can occur in electrical system installations.

• Use an isolated power supply

• Use single point grounding

• Install a power supply solely for the PanelMate ePro ES

• Use a current-limiting power supply

• Add circuit breakers

Use an Isolated Power Supply AC to DC power supplies are typically isolated while DC to DC power supplies are often non-isolated. Check the power supply specifications to ensure that the power supply is fully isolated.

Use Single Point Grounding The external power supply and the PanelMate ePro ES unit should be grounded to the same point. Single point grounding should be practiced even when the devices are located in separate enclosures to help prevent ground loop issues.

Install a Power Supply Solely for the PanelMate ePro ES If the current external power supply is used for multiple devices, add an external power supply specifically for the PanelMate ePro ES unit. A separate external power supply will better protect against system transients and ground potential issues.

Wiring the Power Connector Step 1: Connect the power connector to the 24 VDC power source.

Warning: If the power source is not connected to the correct pins, the system may be damaged when the power is turned on.

First Time Power Up Process Once power is connected to your PanelMate ePro ES unit, the following occurs:

1. A black screen appears that says “System Starting…..” 2. A series of command lines will scroll past on a white background. 3. The PanelMate ePro ES demo will start. You can touch buttons and change

pages to familiarize yourself with the unit. Note: You can power down your PanelMate ePro ES unit at any time after the operating system has fully booted up. There is no formal shut-down process that needs to be followed. Simply slide the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position or disconnect the power connection.

Terminating the ePro ES Demo To stop the demo application, select the Exit button. The demo application closes and you are returned to the PanelMate ePro ES desktop. The default is that the Task Bar and Start Menu is in Auto Hide mode. To access the Task Bar simply tap anywhere along the bottom of the screen.

Steps to Preparing the ePro ES for Online Use After using the demo application to familiarize yourself with the ePro ES user interface, you can connect to the ePro ES unit in order to do one or more of the following:

• Install the latest ePro Canvas runtime software

• Install an OPC server/driver

• Download an ePro Canvas configuration Note: PanelMate ePro ES models are pre-licensed to run with the Kepware OPC server/drivers. The Kepware OPC server/drivers are found on the Kepware CD (KEPServer_ePro) provided with the ePro Canvas software. Refer to the Transferring Software and Configurations section for additional information on transferring files.

Communicating to a PLC or Controller Your PanelMate ePro ES unit can communicate to a PLC or controller via:

A serial connection (COM1 - RS232, COM2 – RS232, COM3 - RS485) • Note that the port labeled COM2 supports COM2 (RS232) and COM3 (RS485) communications simultaneously. Refer to the Serial Port Connectors section for additional information on the serial port connectors and shunting cable. Caution: Your PanelMate ePro unit is not equipped with isolated serial ports. Check for any ground potential difference between your communication equipment and your PanelMate ePro ES unit. If there is a ground potential difference, your communication equipment will need to be isolated.

An Ethernet connection. •

Refer to the Connecting to Your ePro ES via Ethernet section for more information about setting up an Ethernet connection.

Preparing Your ePro ES for File Transfers You can transfer files to the PanelMate ePro ES using the following methods:

• An Ethernet connection with the PanelMate ePro ES using static IP addressing, using either − A point-to-point connection (direct) using a Cat 5 Ethernet crossover cable. − A network connection using a local Ethernet hub/switch and a pair of Cat 5

Ethernet patch cables. • An Ethernet connection with the PanelMate ePro ES using a plant local Ethernet

network connection with a DHCP server assigning the ePro ES its IP address.

• A CompactFlash memory card reader attached to a computer.

You will be required to remove the CompactFlash memory card from the PanelMate ePro ES unit and insert it into a CompactFlash reader/slot attached to the computer. The CompactFlash memory card should not be hot-swapped. Turn off the PanelMate ePro ES unit before removing or inserting the CompactFlash memory card. When installing the CompactFlash memory card into the PanelMate ePro ES unit ensure that the guides are lined up carefully and the “lip” on the memory card is toward the front of the unit.

Notes: The PanelMate ePro ES default setting is to “Obtain an IP address via DHCP”. When specifying a static IP address:

• All static IP addresses must be unique

• All subnet masks must match Cat 5 cable is recommended for industrial applications.

Connecting to Your ePro ES via Ethernet

Setting Up a Point-to-Point (Direct) Ethernet Connection To connect to your PanelMate ePro ES unit using an Ethernet point-to-point connection, complete the following steps:

Step 1: Use a crossover cable. Step 2: Connect one end of the cable to the Ethernet port on your computer and the other end of the cable to the Ethernet (LAN) port of your PanelMate ePro ES unit. Step 3: Power up your computer and your PanelMate ePro ES unit. Once you have established the physical connections, the next step is to establish the correct logical connections between your computer and your PanelMate ePro ES unit. Note that the default IP address setting is to “Obtain an IP address via DHCP”. You will need to change this to “Specify an IP address”. Use Start>Settings>Network & Dial-up Connections to make the change. Enter the PanelMate ePro ES IP address making sure that it is assigned a unique value where the first three fields match that of your connected computer. For example, if the IP address of the computer is 192.168.0.001, then the ePro ES IP address would be 192.168.0.xxx where xxx is between 0 and 255 and is not equal to 001, which is the assigned computer IP address. Enter a subnet mask that matches the computer subnet mask. A Default Gateway value is not required for a direct connection.

Setting Up an Ethernet Connection Using a Hub/Switch and Static IP Address This method can be used to set up a local workgroup using only static IP address. To connect to your PanelMate ePro ES unit using this method, complete the following steps:

Step 1: Use patch cables. Step 2: Power up the hub/switch and connect a patch cable from both your computer’s and your PanelMate ePro ES unit’s Ethernet (LAN) port to the hub or switch. Other units can be added. Note: Do not to use the port labeled Uplink on the hub or switch. Once you have established the physical connections, the next step is to establish the correct logical connections. Note that the default IP address setting is to “Obtain an IP address via DHCP”. You will need to change this to “Specify an IP address”. Use Start>Settings>Network & Dial-up Connections to make the change. Enter the PanelMate ePro ES IP address making sure that it is assigned a unique value where the first three fields match that of your connected computer. For example, if the IP address of the computer is 192.168.0.001, then the ePro ES IP address would be 192.168.0.xxx where xxx is between 0 and 255 and is not equal to 001, which is the assigned computer IP address. Setting Up PanelMate ePro ES on a Domain Network Using DHCP Server Working on domain networks is the same as working in a local workgroup. You can use static or dynamic addressing (DHCP) to establish a connection to the network.

PanelMate ePro ES can connect to resources logged on to a domain by the user supplying a valid “domain name”, “user id”, and “password” (these are provided by the network administrator). This procedure will create a connection to the domain resource that will last as long as it is not manually removed or a loss of power to any of the connected devices does not occur.

Note: When using PanelMate ePro ES units on a network the units will not be visible when browsing. This is a known attribute of the PanelMate ePro ES Microsoft® Windows® CE.net operating system.

Transferring Software and Configurations Typical data transfers include the following:

• Configuration data files (.ucf files)

• PanelMate ePro ES runtime software

• OPC server/drivers

Types of Software That Can Be Transferred to the ePro ES You can transfer PanelMate ePro ES runtime software and Kepware OPC server/drivers to your PanelMate ePro ES unit. Other third-party software packages or OPC servers that have not been authorized may not install or run properly. Note that Microsoft Windows CE.net is different from a Microsoft Windows desktop operating system. As a result, Windows CE.net software programs are built and compiled specifically for the supporting hardware. Therefore, off-the-shelf or 3rd party software will typically not run on the PanelMate ePro ES.

Transferring Files to the PanelMate ePro ES Downloading files is done using an Ethernet connection or by removing the CompactFlash memory card from the ePro ES and inserting it in a CompactFlash reader at your computer. Refer to the Preparing Your ePro ES for File Transfers section for additional information. Once you have established a link directly with the PanelMate ePro ES unit using an Ethernet connection or you have inserted the CompactFlash memory card into your computer, you can transfer the PanelMate ePro ES runtime software, the OPC drivers and ePro Canvas configuration (.ucf) files using the ePro Canvas software Send To File feature. Refer to the ePro Canvas Send to File Help files for more information. Keep in mind that if you are transferring files directly to the PanelMate ePro ES unit using the Send to File feature you will need the IP address of the target 7475T-6 unit. The IP address can be easily found by selecting the IP Information icon in the status bar of the PanelMate ePro ES unit.

Uninstalling Software

Uninstalling ePro ES Runtime Software There is no need to remove or uninstall the PanelMate ePro ES runtime software from the ePro ES unit. If you want to upgrade to a newer runtime version simply transfer the new runtime file using the Send to File feature of the ePro Canvas software. PanelMate ePro ES models are pre-licensed to run the PanelMate ePro ES runtime software. The license remains with the hardware and cannot be transferred.

Uninstalling OPC Server/Drivers There is no need to remove or uninstall the OPC server/drivers from the ePro ES unit. If you want to upgrade to a newer version simply transfer the new drivers using the Send to File feature of the ePro Canvas software. PanelMate ePro ES models are pre-licensed to run Kepware OPC drivers. The license remains with the hardware and cannot be transferred.

Introduction The 7475T-6 operator interface has several software tools, utilities and programs to help keep the system running smoothly. After the unit boots up and the online software has been stopped you will see the desktop as shown below. Note: The default is that the Task Bar and Start Menu is in Auto Hide mode. To access the Task Bar simply tap anywhere along the bottom of the screen.

Refer to Chapter 1 Terminating the ePro ES Demo for details on stopping the runtime demo. If a different runtime configuration is running and there is no Exit button you will need to attach a keyboard and follow these steps to terminate the runtime software and gain access to the desktop. Step 1: Select <ALT> <TAB> to call up the Task Manager. Step 2: Select the OIEngine program. Step 3: Select End Task. Step 4: Select End Task again in response to the Task Not Responding dialogue box.

Several dialog boxes are larger than the ePro ES display area. If you are viewing a dialog box window that is not completely viewable simply drag and drop the window so that you can view other parts. In some cases the windows cannot be moved requiring you to use a PS2 keyboard or the soft-keyboard to select ESC to close the dialog box.

Status Bar Icons There are several icons that show up in the status bar: Tap this icon once to request a reboot.

Tap this icon to activate/deactivate the soft-keyboard. Refer to the Soft-Keyboard section to learn more about the soft-keyboard.

Double-tap this icon to view IP address details.

This icon shows that the unit is receiving power.

Double-tap the time/date values to access the Time-Date program.

Tap this icon to toggle between minimizing and maximizing all active programs windows.

Saving Registry Values Any time changes are made to values they are stored in volatile memory. When the unit is rebooted the values in memory are cleared and the values are reset to the last values stored in Flash memory. To save new value settings in the Flash memory follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select Start>Programs>Registry Saver Step 2: A dialog box will be displayed saying the registry file has been saved in the Flash memory successfully. Note: The registry save may take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute. Do not power down your unit until the Registry Saver confirmation dialog box has closed.

Soft-Keyboard

Using the Soft-Keyboard The 7475T-6 is designed for installation in small space. It is often inconvenient for users to attach a keyboard and/or mouse for operator entry. As a result, a software keyboard is available. Upon boot-up, a small keyboard/stylus icon will appear on the status bar. Double-tap the soft-keyboard icon to toggle the soft-keyboard on and off. Single-tap the soft-keyboard icon to bring up a menu. Select Keyboard to display the soft-keyboard or Hide Input Panel to remove the soft-keyboard. Tap the required keys when alphanumeric input is required. If gestures have been selected (see Configuring the Soft-Keyboard section below) you must move the stylus/finger the distance greater than a keys width to activate the gesture character.

Configuring the Soft-Keyboard The soft-keyboard can be configured by the user to display large or small characters and gestures can be selected. To configure the soft-keyboard follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. Step 2: Double-tap Input Panel. Step 3: The Input Panel Properties window will appear. Select the Options button. Step 4: Select either Large Keys or Small Keys as desired. Check the Use Gestures checkbox if gestures are desired. Selecting gestures will remove the CAP (Large Keys only), Space, Backspace and Enter key from the soft-keyboard. These characters are specified by moving the stylus/finger by pressing on a key and moving in the directions listed below. The movement must be at least 1 key width to activate the gesture instead of selecting the character pressed.

Double-Tap Sensitivity Setting The Double-Tap Sensitivity setting can be redefined by following the steps below. This utility allows you to set the double-tap timing to a speed that fits your style.

Step 1: Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. Step 2: Double-tap Stylus. Step 3: The Stylus Properties window will appear with two tabs—Double-Tap and Calibration. Step 4: Select the Double-Tap tab and then record the time period between two taps by tapping on the checkered square. This can be tested by selecting the icon below it. Step 5: Select OK to save the current setting or X to cancel. Step 6: New values are saved in memory and will be reset to the last values stored in Flash memory when the system is rebooted. In order to permanently save the new values you must perform a registry save. Refer to the Registry Saver section for details on saving value settings in the Flash memory.

Touchscreen Calibration The touchscreen calibration allows you to redefine the accuracy of touchscreen touch values. To recalibrate the touchscreen follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. Step 2: Double-tap Stylus Step 3: The Stylus Properties window will appear with two tabs - Double-Tap and Calibration. Step 4: Select the Calibration tab to calibrate the touchscreen. Step 5: Select the Recalibrate button and the screen turns white and a target appears at the center of the screen. Step 6: Use a stylus or finger to push the center of the target until it moves. The target moves to upper-left, lower- left, lower-right and upper-right corners. Select the center of each target to give location references. If the calibration is not accepted the center target will be displayed again and the process will be repeated. When all five targets have been calibrated with acceptable values no targets will be displayed. If a keyboard is attached select Enter to accept the new settings or Esc to cancel out of the recalibration at any time. If no keyboard is attached, press anywhere on the screen to accept the recalibration values. Step 7: Select OK to save the current settings or X to cancel. Step 8: New calibration values are saved in memory and will be reset to the last values stored in Flash memory when the system is rebooted. In order to permanently save the new values you must perform a registry save. Refer to the Registry Saver section for details on saving value settings in the Flash memory.

Backlight Control If the unit is going to be left unattended for a long time it is beneficial to turn off the backlight to extend the life of the bulb. To change the backlight display time, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. Step 2: Double-tap Display Step 3: Select the Backlight tab Step 4: Check the checkbox to automatically turn off the backlight while on external power. Note that battery power is not an option for this unit. Step 5: Select the drop-down window and then select the desired time to wait before the backlight is automatically turned off. Step 6: Select OK to save the current settings or X to cancel. Step 7: New backlight timeout values are saved in memory and will be reset to the last values stored in Flash memory when the system is rebooted. In order to permanently save the new values you must perform a registry save. Refer to the Registry Saver section for details on saving value settings in the Flash memory.

Backlight Brightness The brightness of the backlight can be adjusted for maximum viewability. To change the brightness value, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. Step 2: Double-tap Display Step 3: Select the Backlight tab Step 4: Select the Advanced button Step 5: Adjust the brightness as desired. Step 6: Select OK to save the current settings or X to cancel from the Advanced Backlight Options dialog box. Step 7: Select OK to save the current settings or X to cancel. Step 8: New backlight brightness values are saved in memory and will be reset to the last values stored in Flash memory when the system is rebooted. In order to permanently save the new values you must perform a registry save. Refer to the Registry Saver section for details on saving value settings in the Flash memory.

Watchdog Timer It is important in industrial applications that the control systems are reliable, or are capable of self-reset if the system locks up or the program somehow halts . The watchdog timer can be used in the 7475T-6 to provide an automatic reset of the unit. There is a timer inside the watchdog timer function and the ePro ES automatically clears the timer within a pre-set time interval. If the timer is not cleared, the watchdog timer assumes that the system has halted and generates an automatic reset. The watchdog timer in the 7475T-6 is set to 1000 milliseconds. To enable or disable the Watchdog Timer function, take the following steps (the default is enabled):

Step 5: New watchdog timer values are saved in memory and will be reset to the last values stored in Flash memory when the system is rebooted. In order to permanently save the new values you must perform a registry save. Refer to the Registry Saver section for details on saving value settings in the Flash memory. Do not select the reboot button from the Watchdog Timer Settings window before accessing Registry Saver as the changed values will be reset to the original values and the changes will be lost.

Ethernet IP Addresses The 7475T-6 is equipped with a 10 Base-T Ethernet controller. To designate how an IP addresswill be assigned follow the steps below.

Step 1: Click Start>Settings>Network and Dial-up Connections Step 2: Select LAN90001 Step 3: Specify the IP address type, IP address and name servers as required. Step 4: New IP address values are saved in memory and will be reset to the last values stored in Flash memory when the system is rebooted. In order to permanently save the new values you must perform a registry save. Refer to the Registry Saver section for details on saving value settings in the Flash memory.

Mounting Follow the steps below to mount the PanelMate ePro ES into a panel or cabinet. Refer to Appendix A for unit dimensions and cutout information. Step 1: Make sure the waterproof gasket is in position before installing the 7475T-6 in the panel opening. The adhesive waterproof gasket is located on the front bezel. Step 2: Install the 7475T-6 in the panel opening. Step 3: Find the six clamps and six long screws in the accessory pack. Insert the clamps into the holes around the four sides of the bezel. Insert the screws in each clamp and tighten them. The screws will push against the mounting panel and secure the unit in place. Caution: Do not exceed the torque limit of 3 inch-pounds when tightening the screws. Over tightened screws may cause the touchscreen to operate incorrectly. Step 4: The mounting panel thickness should be less than 5mm (0.197 inch).

Enclosure Selection

Enclosure Rating The front panels of PanelMate ePro ES units provide a Type 4 and IP65 rating when mounted in a correspondingly rated enclosure. Make sure the enclosure that you choose meets or exceeds your application’s rating requirement.

Enclosure Construction It is recommended that the enclosure is constructed of cold rolled steel. This type of enclosure helps guard your unit against electromagnetic interference, and provides proper structural support and good heat dissipation.

Enclosure Sizing and Unit Positioning Careful enclosure sizing is important for proper heat dissipation and easy installation and maintenance. For efficient convection cooling, free space is needed around the ePro ES unit and the unit should be mounted in a vertical position. Convection cooling draws a vertical column of air upward over internal circuitry through the vents in the unit. In all installations, the cooling air must not exceed the maximum specified ambient temperature. This determination must be made for the maximum expected plant temperature (maximum temperature of the air surrounding the enclosure).

• Maintain recommended free space above and below the ePro ES unit (refer to the following table for details)

• Avoid mounting other heat-generating equipment near the ePro ES unit. If no other location is available, mount the equipment beside or behind the ePro ES unit. If side/rear space is not available, it is preferable to mount the other equipment above rather than below the ePro ES unit. Be sure to maintain the recommended free space area between the ePro ES unit and the other equipment.

• Leave room for easy access to circuit boards, wiring and cable connections, and for regular maintenance.

If the inside temperature of the enclosure is above the PanelMate ePro ES unit’s recommended range, you must use filtered fans, heat exchangers, or air conditioners to lower the temperature. Because hot air rises to the top of an enclosure, the temperature inside can vary greatly from bottom to top. A fan can be used to circulate air within the enclosure to maintain a more uniform temperature. Make sure the magnetic properties of the equipment used to cool the enclosure do not interfere with your PanelMate ePro ES unit’s operation. Note: If an air-purged enclosure is used, it is recommended that the inside/outside pressure differential not exceed 0.5 PSI. The following sizing table is offered as an aid in the selection of enclosures to be used with the PanelMate ePro ES unit. Serial Communication Cable Selection, Shielding, Grounding and Termination

A variety of communication interface options are available for the ePro unit. These options include the following. Note that COM2 and COM3 are included in the port labeled COM2 on the unit.

• RS232 communications (COM1, COM2)

• RS485 communications (COM3) No specific communications option is recommended. Your choice should be based on the requirements of your total control system. The communications option that you choose determines the precautions that you need to take when installing and connecting your PanelMate ePro ES unit. For easy reference, this section contains a summary of several popular communication interface options. Each summary provides specific recommendations, guidelines and installation tips. Note: Low signal level conductors (Category 2) have a low tolerance for induced electrical noise. Electrical noise can cause a wide range of communications problems resulting in slow or error-prone PanelMate ePro ES operation. Follow all of the installation recommendations for the communication option that you choose. Also, follow good wiring placement practices as outlined in the Cable Segregation and Placement section.

RS232 Grounding Recommendations Grounding of the communication cable shield at both ends provides the most immunity to high frequency electrical interference. However, the introduction of low frequency interference by high ground currents in the shield may require grounding only one end. RS232 Shielding Recommendations

Application: Short or Long Runs in LOW or HIGH Noise Environment with INSIGNIFICANT Levels of Low Frequency Ground Differential Voltage Between Connected Units A good quality shielded cable consisting of twisted pairs for the required communication wires and logic common is recommended. An unshielded line is not recommended because the unshielded connectors may act as an antenna resulting in radiated emissions that may exceed the CE specification limit. Additionally, shielded cable provides greater ESD protection. The shield should be connected directly to the chassis of the interconnected units at both ends. The connector housing should contact the cable shield uniformly around the entire 360-degree periphery of the housing cable entry opening. Never connect the shield by way of a drain wire pigtail unless absolutely necessary. If a pigtail is required, the shield should be terminated as closely as possible to the connector to minimize the pigtail length.

Application: Short or Long Runs in LOW Noise Environment with HIGH Levels of Low Frequency Ground Differential Voltage Between Connected Units A good quality shielded cable consisting of twisted pairs for the required communication wires and logic common is recommended. The shield should be connected directly to the chassis of one of the interconnected units (one end only). Never connect the shield by way of a drain wire pigtail unless absolutely necessary. If a pigtail is required, the shield should be terminated as closely as possible to the connector to minimize the pigtail length.

Application: Short or Long Runs in HIGH Noise Environment with HIGH Levels of Low Frequency Ground Differential Voltage Between Connected Units A good quality shielded cable consisting of twisted pairs for the required communication wires and logic common is recommended. The shield should be connected directly to the chassis of one of the interconnected units and ac-coupled through a 0.01 microfarad capacitor at the other end to the chassis of the second unit. The connector housing should contact the cable shield uniformly around the entire 360-degree periphery of the housing cable entry opening. Attaching the capacitor at the ac-coupled end requires some ingenuity to achieve a secure connection at both the shield and chassis while keeping the capacitor lead length as short as possible.

RS422 Grounding Recommendations This balanced interface operates with common mode DC or peak AC voltages differentials of –7 to +7 volts between grounds at each end of the cable. In cases where the common mode voltage approaches either extreme, the system may operate properly when the shield is grounded at only one end of the cable. However, this arrangement makes the system susceptible to high frequency interference. If the systems do not operate properly due to high frequency interference and grounding the cable shield at both ends is ineffective, then total isolation must be considered or ground potentials in your plant eliminated.

This network is an extension of RS422 and is used for the distribution of data between multiple system components and peripherals over distances up to 4000 feet. This system will tolerate common mode voltage differentials from –7 to +12 volts. For more information refer to the EIA RS485 Standard.

Serial Cable Segregation and Placement

Serial Cable Segregation The low power cabling used for PLC and PC-based control systems is very susceptible to electrical noise generated by high power conductors. Even when protected by conduit, noise can interfere with your communication lines and networks. Therefore it is important to segregate conductors according to their type.

Category Description Examples

Category 1 High Power Conductors These conductors can cause electrical noise in Category 2 conductors when in close proximity. Are more tolerant of electrical noise than Category 2. Reference: NEC article 725 class 1 Reference: IEEE level 3 and 4

• AC power lines • High power digital AC and

DC lines • Typically these conductors

are used to connect hard-contact switches, relays, solenoids, motors, generators and arc welders.

Category 2 Low Signal Level Conductors These conductors are less tolerant of electrical noise; however, they cause less noise in adjacent conductors. Reference: NEC article 725 class 2, class 3 Reference: IEEE level 1 and level 2

• Communication cables—Ethernet, PLC networks, etc.

• Low power digital AC and DC I/O lines

• Typically these conductors are used to connect PLCs and related modules with PanelMate ePros

Cable Placement The following guidelines should be used when installing your communication cables:

• All Category 2 cables should be shielded and routed in a separate conduit or raceway from Category 1 cables.

• Route Category 2 cables at least one foot from 120 VAC power lines.

• Route Category 2 cables at least two feet from 240 VAC power lines.

• Route Category 2 cables at least three feet from 480 VAC power lines.

• Route Category 2 cables at least five feet from high voltage enclosures.

• If a Category 2 cable must cross Category 1 cables, it should cross at a right angle.

• If Category 2 cable is enclosed in metal conduit or a metal raceway, electrical continuity must be maintained along the entire length of the conduit/raceway installation, including entry into the enclosure.

Potential Problem Areas The following are potential problem areas that might be encountered when installing your communication cables:

• High and low power conductors routed in the same conduit or raceway.

• Conduit with low power conductors routed in close parallel proximity to conduit containing high power conductors.

• Cable or PanelMate ePro ES unit located too close to devices generating high levels of magnetic or electrical interference.

• Lack of continuous electrical continuity along the length of the conduit installation.

Safety Instructions 1. Never use foreign objects to activate the touchscreen. Use a hand, gloved hand or stylus.

Foreign objects (such as a screwdriver) may cause damage to the touchscreen or scratch the front panel reducing the transmissivity.

2. Use a light touch to activate the touchscreen. Touchscreen activation does not require the same force necessary to activate a mechanical switch.

3. Disconnect this equipment from the power outlet before cleaning. Use a damp cloth. Do not use liquid or spray detergents for cleaning.

4. Do not remove or insert the CompactFlash memory card while the PanelMate ePro ES unit is powered up. Doing so may cause damage to the CompactFlash memory.

5. Keep this equipment away from humidity. 6. Put this equipment on a reliable surface during installation. Dropping it or letting it fall may

cause damage. 7. The openings on the enclosure are for air convection cooling. Protect the equipment from

overheating. DO NOT COVER THE OPENINGS. 8. Make sure the voltage of the power source is correct before connecting the equipment to the

power outlet. 9. Position the power cord so that people cannot step on it. Do not place anything over the power

cord. 10. All cautions and warnings on the equipment should be noted. 11. If the equipment is not used for a long time, disconnect it from the power source to avoid

damage by transient overvoltage. 12. Never pour any liquid into an opening. This may cause fire or electrical shock. 13. Never open the equipment. For safety reasons, the equipment should be opened only by

qualified service personnel. 14. If one of the following situations arises, get the equipment checked by service personnel:

a. The power cord or plug is damaged. b. Liquid has penetrated into the equipment. c. The equipment has been exposed to moisture. d. The equipment does not work well, or you cannot get it to work according to the user's

manual. e. The equipment has been dropped and damaged. f. The equipment has obvious signs of breakage.

15. Do not keep the equipment in an environment where the storage temperature may go below -20° C (-4° F) or above 60° C (140° F). This could damage the equipment. The equipment should be kept in a controlled environment.
