The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup took place throughout France from the 7th of June to the 7th of July. Favourites for the competition were the United States Women’s National Team, however it was our Australian Matildas team that won our hearts with an overnight viewership of nearly 600,000 people across Australia for the first match with Italy.

Australian Television entrepreneur Reg Grundy was a great pioneer of television formats.

He started in radio as quiz master on the game show “Wheel of Fortune,” which he later adapted for television in 1959.

He also brought the US game shows “Concentration” and “Tic. Tac. Dough” to Australia, the latter’s format copied from NBC in the United States.

An opening day classic against Italy saw Sam Kerr scoring with a penalty but Italy responded in the second half with a fine equaliser. Australia played well, but a late 95th-minute winner sent the Italians into a frenzy of joy.
