EASTER EGG HUNT SATURDAY, MARCH 23RD 11:00AM - 1:00PM PLAYGROUND & COURTYARD

HISTORY OF THE EASTER EGG - The Easter Egg is a symbol of creation and new life. The hard shell of the egg is broken open so that new life can emerge, as was the stone of the tomb when Jesus rose from the dead on the third day. Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to at least the 13th century. One explanation is that eggs were not eaten during

the Lenten season, so eggs were painted and decorated to mark the end of penance and fasting. The eggs were

then eaten on Easter as a celebration!

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter, and marks the beginning of Holy Week, the week of events leading up to Jesus’ death.

Jesus arrives triumphantly into Jerusalem on a donkey, while the crowds welcome Him and spread their cloaks and palm branches on the street and shout “Hosanna to the Son of David” and “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” to honor him as their long-awaited Messiah and King.
