Accident sends Meriden residents to hospital Two residents of Meriden were taken to an area hospital for medical attention as a result of a three-vehicle accident last Thursday in Douglas County that involved two Jefferson County motorists. The Kansas Highway Patrol, which investigated the crash, identified the two Meriden-ites as 58-year-old Donna S. Fuerstenberg and 12-year-old Andrew J. Fuerstenberg. Com-plaining of pain, they suffered possible injuries, according to the agency’s report, and were transported to Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka. The Fuerstenbergs were passengers in a 2019 Lincoln Navigator driven by 57-year-old Dennis L. Fuerstenberg of Meriden. The report said Fuer-stenberg was traveling west on US-40 when he slowed for traffic and the Navigator was struck from behind by a 1996 Chevro-let 1500 driven by 21-year-old Christopher J. Czirr of Ozawkie. He was unable to stop in time, according to the report. The Silverado, in turn, was struck by a 2007 Mazda6 driven by 27-year-old Troy M. Bellinger of Lawrence, who also was head-ed west on US-40. The report said he was unable to slow down in time to avoid contact with the pickup. The Navigator came to rest in the north ditch facing west. Both the Silverado and the Mazda6 ended up in the center lane facing northwest. Dennis Fuerstenberg, Czirr and Bellinger had no appar-ent injuries, according to the report. The report indicated that the three drivers and the two passengers were wearing seat belts. The crash occurred at 5:15 p.m., 1.6 miles west of US-59.
26, Winchester, hit a deer on K-192. June 8, 5 p.m.: Donna Wells, 49, Meriden, was backing from a park-ing stall and hit a parked vehicle at 6762 Hickory Point Road. June 10, 9:25 a.m.: Jordan Pick-ens, 23, Topeka, was northbound on K-237 when his tire left the roadway. He overcorrected and lost control. The vehicle rolled and came to rest in the west ditch. The driver was reported as having been injured.
Jail bookings— June 20, 2:20 p.m.: Ricky Tavis, 33, journal entry. June 21, 1:25 p.m.: Ciara Her-nandez, 26, failure to appear. June 23, 6:06 a.m.: Manuel Pino, 29, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, $2,500 bond. June 23, 12:30 p.m.: Kyle Hittle, 27, journal entry.
