from 4.30 pm onwards at Civil Auditorium.
The occasion was illuminated with the

Donation of Hearing Aids for the students
of Ceylon school for the Deaf, Rathmalana
was successfully held on 15th of Match
2018 at the school premises with the pres-
ence of the president of the EESoc.

The marvellous event ‘We Are With You’ organized by the Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc), was held for the 19th consecutive time on 27th of February 2018 with the participation of more than 100 differ-ently abled students from School for the Deaf, Rathmalana.
Both electrical undergraduates and students from the school were ea-gerly waiting for this day to meet with each other to share their ideas using their own methods of communication, to show their talents and skills in different areas etc.
As usual, all the students, teachers and parents were warmly welcome to the university premises and proceedings of the event commenced
with the inaugural ceremony held at the Civil Auditorium. After lighting of the tradition-al oil lamp , the annual quiz competition was held based on school subjects and gen-eral knowledge.
The participants were keen on answering the questions with their maximum effort. It was a pleasure for everybody to see how these students had enhanced their wisdom via their education and day-today activities.
The quiz was followed by a drama and a dance present-ed by the students...

The Annual General Meeting of Electrical
Engineering Society (EESoc) of University of
Moratuwa was held for the 22nd consecutive time on
26th January 2018 from 4.30 pm onwards at Civil
Auditorium. The occasion was illuminated with the
presence of emeritus Prof. J.R.Lucas, Head of the
Department Prof. Sisil Kumarawadu, other academic
staff and undergraduates of Department of Electrical
Engineering.
The event was commenced with the lighting the
traditional oil lamp and the gathering was warmly
welcome by the former president Dr.D.P.Chandima.
Minutes and the financial report were read by the
Secretary and Junior Treasurer respectively. They
were approved to be correct by the audience.
The annual report which includes all the projects
carried out by the EESoc in the year 2017/18 was
presented by Mr.G.S.S.Gamage, the vice president.
The throwback video which has been displayed
includes the projects handled throughout the year
and it made reminiscence to audience about how a
colourful variegated year has been passed by the
EESoc.
During the address by, Head of the Department Prof.
Sisil Kumarawadu, he recalls his memory in the
formation of EESoc during his 3rd year as an
undergraduate in University of Moratuwa with the
pioneer character Dr.Thrishantha Nanayakkara.
Also he mentioned about the requirement of EESoc
affinity group in CEB, LECO and creation of FB group
for EESoc. Professor appreciated the effort by
outgoing team of EESoc and wish best of luck for
new office bearers.
As the climax of the event, new office bearers for the
year 2018/19 was elected by the EESoc members.
The new bearers were assigned with their duties and
got warm wishes by the former office bearers who
served a tremendous service for the betterment of
EESoc society and the department.
The new executive committee is headed by Dr.
D.P.Chandima as the president, Dr. Rasara
Samarasinghe as the Senior Treasurer .Rest of the
office bearers consist of 8 members from final year
undergraduates and 4 members from 3rd year
undergraduates.
As the newly elected president Dr. D.P.Chandima
addressed the gathering and he stated about the
benefits of EESoc major event such as Round Table
Conference (RTC) which makes a strong network
between industry and the EESoc community.
The annual flagship event “Round Table Conference”
is providing the inimitable podium for the
professionals in the industry to unfold remarks on a
highly clamant issue which has a connection with the
power sector of Sri Lanka. A panel of professionals
examines and exchange views on a matter
impartially to deliver explanations and solutions to
the undergraduates, graduates, professionals and
the general public.
The occasion was successfully ended by concluding
important decisions and improvements for the
EESoc. The event was highlighted with an
entertainment session performed by undergraduates
of Electrical Engineering Department.

Power system of a country is a broader aspect where
whole country is benefited with. In order to
knowledge up the future personals whom to vest the
responsibility of country’s power system a guest
lecture was held on 22nd of February 2018 at the
Seminar Room, Department of Electrical engineering.
The workshop was conducted by two engineers from
Ceylon Electricity board, Dr. H.M. Wijeekoon Banda,
Chief Engineer (Transmission Planning) and Mr.
M.B.S. Samarasekara, Chief Engineer (Generation
Planning).
The main concern of the lecture was to handover
knowledge about the current status and future
commitments of Sri Lankan power system.
Mr. M.B.S. Samarasekara explained about present
status of Sri Lankan power generation, proposed
capacity additions to the generation network,
environment aspects on power generation and
commitments from CEB, comparison of energy mixes
of the other countries and Sri Lanka.
Dr. H.M. Wijeekoon Banda explained about present
transmission network and its development, future
transmission investment commitments, HVDC link
between India and Sri Lanka.
The guest lecture was successfully held for about two
hours with the interaction of academic staff and
undergraduates.
On “We Are with You” day UoM students spent the
day with children in Ceylon School for Deaf and blind
in Rathmalana and for the communication it is
necessary to have a basic understanding about the
sign language. Sign Language is the mother tongue of
deaf people.
Therefore Electrical Engineering Society organized
the sign language workshop for the 5th consecutive
time on 19th February 2018 from 3.15pm onwards at
Department Final Year Classroom. The Classroom
was full of participants and it shows their willingness
to share their kind hearts with those differently
abled students.
EESoc is extremely grateful for Mr Rajitha Hewage
for conducting the workshop by dedicating his
valuable time for electrical engineering
undergraduates. At the end of the session a token of
appreciation was given to Mr Rajitha in valuing his
presence for the occasion.

The quiz was followed by a drama and a dance presented by the students of the school. That fascinating drama and colourful dance reminded everybody that these students are actually really talented students with multi skills.
After the welcome ceremony children were directed to the university ground for the outdoor session.
Every year, the ‘We Are With You’ program is conducted with a different theme which steals the minds of the students. Hence, the theme ‘Red Indians’ were proposed for this year. All the decorations had been done under this theme. Red Indian huts, conflagrations were made all over the place delivering the feeling of a Red Indian village.
Some undergraduates dressed up like Red Indian people. Children loved all those characters who were roaming around filling them with joy. They were interested in taking photographs with their lovable characters. Various games were organized in different places of the gaming zone letting the students participate in whatever the games they preferred. Targeting games, water games were some of their favourites. Winners were awarded with delicious chocolates at the instant. It was very enjoyable for the children as well as the electrical undergraduates and lecturers who participated in games.

A cricket match and a netball match in between the school children and undergraduates took place in parallel. In the meantime, all the students were treated with ice-cream.
When everything else was going fine, the weather threatened with rain. Due to the rain some of the outdoor activities had to be cancelled.
All the students were guided to the Old Gymnasium where the art exhibition of the students was held. The competition was held under various categories and the winners were awarded in the prize giving ceremony for their talents. The prizes were given away for the winners of the quiz competition as well.
Refreshments were provided for the participants & meanwhile ‘We Are With You-2018’ reached to its end. At the end of the event both undergraduates and children gathered in the dance floor to the DJ music.
Another ‘We Are With You’ event was ended up adding unforgettable memories to our lives and reminding us that all the human beings are equal and what all they are seeking for is love, caring and feeling for them.

Hearing Aids Donation
Donation of Hearing Aids for the students of Ceylon school for the Deaf, Rathmalana was successfully held on 15th of March 2018 at the school premises with the presence of the EESoc President Dr.D.P.Chandima, the principal of the school, staff members and students.
This year Electrical Engineering society was able to donate four sets of hearing aids with the financial contribution of ’05 Electrical Engineering Batch of University of Moratuwa
