Newsies Stop the World! Get your tickets now!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! And save the date for the 2019 NPHS production of Newsies! Newsies! Auditions are complete, the cast has been chosen, and rehearsals are underway for this entertaining musical! Set in turn of the century New York City, Newsies is the exciting story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of the “newsies”. When Joseph Pulitzer decides to raise distribution prices of the newspaper at the newsies expense, the newsboys mount a successful strike and campaign to fight for what’s right! Based on the 1992 motion picture, Newsies features a Tony Award winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Featuring recognizable songs such as “Seize and Day” and “Santa Fe”, Newsies is full of thrills, dancing, comedy songs such as “Seize and Day” and “Santa Fe”, Newsies is full of thrills, dancing, comedy and a timeless message that is perfect for the whole family! NPHS NEWSLETTERProgramming 1:Students in Programming 1 have been learning how computer science and programingfits in today’s careers. The class then started practicing concepts of computer scienceand learned their software development cycle. Programming 1 will finish this weekpracticing their development cycle with the use of Finch Robots. Finch Robots havebeen seen in room 1537 using sensors to navigate around obstacles, flash programmedLED lights, playing programmed music, following light sources, and much more. Theclass will use the Finch Robots as a programmed motion control for a “Pong” video gamethat they will program as an assessment for computational artifacts and abstraction.From there, students will them move on with Python programming, a language used inmost early college programming courses and data science-related careers. Advanced Graphic Design:Advanced Graphic Design:Students taking Advanced Graphic Design have been working hard planning their term-long project they will be working on. Students wrote a project proposal, made a timelineto schedule their completion of project components, and have made mood boards ofresources and sources where they can draw inspiration from while working. Studentswill now be working on their projects, and scheduling weekly meetings with theirinstructor to show progress of work and learning in the course. Web 1:Web 1 is a dual credit course where students not only get high school credit, but canreceive college credit through MPCC. Students have learned industry-related vocabularyand have started learning the basics of HTML. Students have been working on masteringa variety of web page elements and tags, that they are starting to put together intoa simple web page. WHO: Parents/guardians, students or anyone interested in learning about the Dual Credit opportunities provided at North Platte High School through Mid-Plains Community College.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE OR ARE TAKING DUAL CREDIT CLASSES: If you have taken or are taking a Dual Credit class this yeaclass this year, the Reimbursement applications are available in the Counselor’s Office. Those need to be completed, with a copy of your college transcript and proof of payment by May 31st. You will be reimbursed $25.00 per credit for classes you have completed.

SENIOR INFORMATIONMid-Nebraska Community Foundation Scholarship forms will be available in the Guidance Office on Friday, February 1st. These scholarships will be due to the Guidance Office by Tuesday, February 26th. There are over 30 different scholarships this year, and some of them are renewable, so be sure to stop in the Counselor’s Office and pick them up! The completed applications need to be returned to Mrs. Schumacher in the Guidance Office and pick them up! Late scholarships will NOT be accepted and will have to be delivered to the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation Office by the student!

Attention senior parents – If you have a senior student graduating in May, and have NOT ordered a cap and gown, you need to do this as soon as possible by calling Mid-West Grads at 402-676-8494. Mid-West Grads will need to know your studentwill need to know your student’s name, height and weight when you call to order the cap and gown. Watch the High School Announcements for upcoming information.

Graduation practice will begin promptly at 9:00 am on Thursday, May 9th, in the Performing Arts Center. Students MUST attend practice if they wish to participate in the commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 12th @ 2:00pm. A sheet of instructions and rain tickets will be sent home with the graduating senior, along with their cap and gown, which will be distributed at the end of graduation practice.
