Hazel Swilley, of Hazen,a member of CarlisleAltruistic Club, was re-elected president ofGFWC District IV, at theSpring Convention atKeo United MethodistChurch, Saturday March31. England’sCosmopolitan Club washostess for the meetingattended by 23 Clubmembers and two guests.Other officers elected
are Jan Pasley, AltruisticClub, present elect, RuthBaker, CosmopolitanClub, vice president,Chris Weems, Hazen’sElsie McCain Club, secre-tary/reporter and PatAycock, Carlisle’sProgressive Club, treas-urer. The officers will beinstalled at the luncheonmeeting on Saturday,May 5, at the SpringConvention of GFWC-ARat Hilton Garden Inn,North Little Rock.The Executive
Committee opened the
convention. The secretaryreported that the minutescommittee has approvedthe minutes and thetreasurer gave the finan-cial report.The date for the Fall
Board meeting was
selected to be August 11,the next Saturday afterthe State Board meetingand it’s Carlisle’s time tohost the meeting.Ila Chaney,
Cosmopolitan Club,opened the meeting withan invocation and HazelSwilley led the pledge ofallegiance to the flag.Debbie Kehrli, GFWC-
AR president was intro-duced, with past districtpresidents, Chris Weems,Hazel Swilley and JudyFoot. Pene Hadley, StateFundraiser was intro-duced.Ruth Baker introduced
the Mayor of Keo, NancyTardy to welcome thegroup. She gave a littlehistory of Keo. It hadbeen started as a town inthe late 1880’s and moveda mile south of the origi-nal town in 1916 to becloser to the railroad. Itwas incorporated as“Keo” that year. Thestores in town completely
burned down in 1926 andwere immediately rebuiltalmost identical to whatthey had been. She hadbeen away a while andwhen she came back in2001, and as she stoppedin town and got out of
her car, she said whatshe saw reminded her “ofa Norman Rockwellpainting.” She distributedpamphlets of “Keo,Arkansas, Key to a GoodLife.”Department Chairmen
gave their reports andpresented their awards.
Pat Aycock, Carlisle, pre-sented the Arts awards:First, Cosmopolitan Club;second Altruistic Cluband third to ProgressiveClub.Five of the six Clubs
were represented. Five of
the annual reports weregiven by the president ora representative for her.Ruth Woods sent her
report and the presidentmade the presentationsfor Public Issues: First,Altruistic Club, second,Elsie McCain Club andthird, Cosmopolitan Club.Dorothy Elmore sent
her report forConservation. Theawards were: First toElsie McCain Club, sec-ond Altruistic Club,third Cosmopolitan andfourth to ProgressiveClub.Linda Price sent her
report for Education:First in Collaborations,Altruistic Club, second,Elsie McCain Club andthird, Cosmopolitan. InPartnership, first ElsieMcCain Club, secondProgressive Club andthird, Altruistic Club.Sue Carter presented
the award in Home Life:First Cosmopolitan Cluband second to AltruisticClub.Thelma Shook sent her
awards for InternationalOutreach: Partnershipawards: First, ElsieMcCain Club, secondAltruistic Club and thirdCosmopolitan. InCollaborations, First toProgressive Club.Thelma also sent the
results of the Scrapbookand Yearbook contest.Carlisle Altruistic Clubwon first in each contest.The first place books willbe judged in the StateContest at the SpringConvention. Second place
in Scrapbook went toCarlisle Progressive andthird place to EnglandCosmopolitan Club.Rosetta VanHouten sent
her report onOutstanding ClubWoman, and the secre-tary read the applicationwhich was entered by theAltruistic Club ofCarlisle. CharlotteBennett was named ClubWoman of the Year forDistrict IV. The reportwill be sent to the StateCommittee.The secretary also gave
the Memorials for thethree recently deceasedDistrict club members:Mrs. Vera Floyd, a pastpresident of Hazen ElsieMcCain Club, Mrs.Edwarda SunderlandWayne, of Scott, a mem-ber of EnglandCosmopolitan Club andMrs. Jessie SmileyGosney, a past presidentof Carlisle AltruisticClub.During lunch, Mrs.
Aycock presented thewinners of the Ten-PennyArt contest. The winnerin Class I in the category,paint - oils and acrylicswent to Shawn Lokeyfirst place, sponsored byEngland CosmopolitanClub.In Class II, category,
paint - oils and acrylicswent to Ashley Keathley,sponsored by CarlisleProgressive Club.In Class II, category,
drawing, pen and ink,and pencil first placewent to Danielle Watson,sponsored by Hazen Elsie
McCain Club.In Class II, category,
multi-medium, includingcrayon, crapac, pastelchalk, first place DanielleWatson, sponsored byHazen Elsie McCainClub, second place, TeddyAshmore, CarlisleAltruistic Club and thirdplace to Chris Fisher,England CosmopolitanClub. Each first placewinner was awarded ablue ribbon and a checkfor $20.00. The first placepieces will be entered inthe State contest May 4-6. It’s the responsibility ofthe sponsoring club to getthe first place winners tothe Convention andreturned to the studentafter judging.Debbie Kehrli brought
greetings from GFWCInternational and theState. She madeannouncements of impor-tant meetings to follow.She reminded membersthat the state meetingare announced in theFederation Speaks. Oneimportant item that shewants members toremember is to bring anew pair of children’ssocks to the Conventionto be used in the sheltersfor victims of DomesticViolence.The Spring Convention
will be at Hilton GardenInn, May 4-6, she said.The District is to decoratea table where the officerswill sit Saturday noonwith items that depict thearea. The District officerswill be installed duringthe noon meeting.Ruth Baker, Pat Hogan
and Rita Farris wereappointed to read andapprove the minutes. TheFall Board meeting willbe at Ferndale 4_hCenter August 4th and5th.Pene Hadley had the
fundraising items dis-played. She also had araffle for “spring items” touse in the garden.Door prizes were award-
ed.The invitation to
Carlisle of the Fall Boardmeeting was given byJan Pasley. The meeting adjourned
with members repeatingthe Club Collect.Well Spring is here. We
are in full gear gettingready for our annualEaster egg hunt. We areinviting the communityto come out and join thefun. Young children tothe 5th grade are invited.We hope to see you there.Monday began with
mail and chat. Later thatmorning we had bingo.That afternoon we playedwho wants to be aMillionaire and had din-ner and a movie.Tuesday morning start-
ed out with mail and chatfollowed by Bible Studyand then that afternoonour wonderful dietarymanager fixed up somebanana splits to end agreat day.Wednesday began with
mail and chat. Later thatmorning we had a gameof bingo and then we hada Popsicle social. Thursday we had mail
and chat followed by puz-zles. That afternoon wehad Wii golf which was somuch fun. Friday we began with
mail and chat. Later that
morning we had bingoand that afternoon wehad a game of dominos.Saturday began with
mail and chat. We had asoda shop and a tater totsocial that afternoon.Sunday began a new
month. April is here. We
began with mail andchat. We had coffee shopand then had a blessedword from BethlehemChurch. We hope that everyone
has a great week, and tosee everyone at the egghunt.

Danielle’s multi-medium self-portrait won first and her pencil drawing also won first. First placepieces will be judged at the State Convention the first weekend in May.
