The Boston Fe- male Medical School was founded by Samuel Gregory with just twelve students. In 1874, the school merged with the Boston University School of Medicine, be- coming one of the first co-ed medical schools. H uman beings have one foot in heaven and one foot planted firmly on the earth. That is, we are physical creatures whose natural home is the earth, and yet we are also spiritual beings who can never completely ignore that our true home is somewhere else. Many deeply spiritual people express the sentiment that they are merely sojourners passing through the physical realm. Some even express a vague sense that they have been separated or torn away from their true home by this earthly existence. But even if there is a kind of cosmic homesickness for heaven, we need not feel out of place or strange here on earth. The earth was created for our good pleasure and surely God wants us to feel at home here. As the poet Max Ehrmann put it in his prose poem Desiderata, “You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.” We should affirm both of our natures; we are both physical and spiritual beings. The voyage we are on through this wondrous cosmos is both a physical and a spiritual journey. —Christopher Simon “If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: ‘e first man Adam became a living being’; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. e spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. e first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.” 1 Corinthians 15: 44-47 Feet of Clay and Souls of Spirit Review your insurance today. Jason was born on October 9, 1982 at St. Joseph’s Hos- pital in Park Rapids to Berrie and Julie (Ruhnke) Burton. As an infant Jason was plagued with painful chronic earaches and would be comforted in the loving arms of his moth- er who would rock him to sleep until Jason underwent surgery to rebuild his Eusta- chian tubes in his inner ears. Because of this, Jason and his mother bonded with a special closeness. He attended public schools in Park Rapids where he was a standout hockey player. After high school, Jason worked as a cook for Khan’s Mongolian Barbeque in Park Rapids. He also worked for his older brother, Andrew in his construction business for seven years. In 2010, Jason ventured to the oil fields of western North Dakota where he gained employment ser- vicing oil wells for the Pio- neer Well Company. Jason loved the out doors and especially looked for- ward to the treasured times he could spend fishing, deer hunting, and camping with his dad and older brother. As a young boy of 10 years, Jason and his brother would impress the older men with their skill and accuracy trap- shooting at the rifle range. In 2006, Jason met the love of his life, Jodi Kohler and has been deeply involved in the lives of her children: Devin and Michelle and Mi- chelle’s children: Haylee and Lexi, all of whom he loved as his own. He had a profound love for animals and has an uncanny ability to connect with them. Above all, Jason cherished the times he could spend with his dad out in the woods or on a lake or river bank. He had a special tenderness in his heart for his mother and knew the infiniteness of her love for her boys. He could never go a day without talking with or doing something with his brother, Andrew and he nev- er took for granted the heart connection he shared with his soul mate, Jodi. Jason will be lovingly re- membered by his parents: Berrie and Julie Burton of Park Rapids; his brothers: Andrew of Park Rapids and Joel (Jaymie) Burton of the Edwards Airforce Base, CA; his soulmate, Jodi Kohler of Nevis, MN; his step-children: Michelle Hamblin, Devin Ferrian, Dalton Kohler, and Britny Hamblin; his step- grandchildren: Haylee and Lexi; his three nephews: Kobe, Eli and Grayson Bur- ton; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Gordon and Anna Lou Ruhn- ke and his paternal grand- mother, Imogene Grubb. Funeral services were held Monday, October 29, at St Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Reverend James Neubauer and Rev- erend Tim Heinecke offici- ated. Sarah Kaufenberg was the organist. Lynn Just sang “On Eagle’s Wings.” The congregational hymns were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Jesus Lives, the Vic- tory’s Won,” and “Amazing Grace”. The casket bearers were nthony Murray, Ty- ler Ruhnke, BJ Smith, Matt Weaver, Ken Weaver, Luke Weaver, Devin Ferrian, and Dalton Kohler. The honorary casket bearers will be Alex Ruhnke, Natalle Ruhnke, Tayler Kamiel, Trista Rosing, Ashlee Rosing, Cailey Ros- ing, Madie Rosing, Jon Paul Koch, Jesse Koch, Michelle Hamblin, Britney Hamblin, Kobe Burton, Eli Burton, and Grayson Burton.
