Chuck, "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", by Dusty Springfield. Each night during Beast just before taps, Larry Henderson, myassistant-squad leader, would play the song. I was in 5th New CadetCompany, so Henderson was First Detail for us. Of course, since Larrywas one of the "Magnificent Seven", he spent the Second Detail with 6thNew Cadet Company. You may remember Larry, a very sensitive guy.Hoot

On July 1, 1968, the day we entered Beast Barracks, Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 #1 hit was "This Guy's in Love With You" but Herb Alpert. On June 7, 1972, the day we graduated, Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 #1 hit was "I'll Take You There" by The Staple Singers. While I'm not a big fan of either song, I propose we add these 2 to illustrate how popular music evolved, or degenerated, during our 4 years at West Point. Also, I'd like to add "Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat and Tears. Chris, this one's for you.

Ok Chuck,One I remember is "Hey Jude". It reminds me of winter, the snow was falling; as we were marching to dinner from New South, someone in Old South was playing that song, and even today that song evokes that evening and the feeling of crisp winter air.

Thanks for putting these songs together.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it for the reunion. I have some surgery coming up that will keep me from moving north in September. Say hello to everyone for me.

I agree, Chris. Great fun before they shipped us off.

I remember "In the Year 2525." That was played a lot. Then we listened to a lot of CCR (Liked their stuff a lot), some good stuff from Three Dog Night, Simon and Garfunkel (didn't Rollie have all their stuff), and I liked Peter, Paul, and Mary (and a lot of folks stuff)and, as Bill Harlan remembers, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond.

Chuck, being a "left-coaster" I was always partial to CCR: Susie Q, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, I Heard It Through the Grpae Vine, Fortunate Son, Run Through the Jungle; all seem to fit the various moods and feeling of the time for me.

Chuck,

Put me down for Suzie Q by CCR in 1968 and Take It Easy by the Eagles in 1972. There was so much great music during this time that it's tough to pick but these two just seem to be timeless.

I remember that you took pride in "discovering" new music and new music groups. I'll forever remember the album cover of Juicy Lucy.
