Perfectly balanced control and monitoring systems developed
and manufactured in-house by MTU, ensure that our proven marine
propulsion technology functions exactly as you would expect it to.
The integration of these cutting-edge electronic systems provides
optimum complete solutions which guarantee safety, efficiency
and reliability.
Without exception, MTU can always supply a complete system indi-
vidually tailored to suit your vessel and backed up by a compre-
hensive service package – all from a single source.
Series 60/2000
smartline is a monitoring system for Series 60* and 2000
engines which incorporates a deliberately simple design, is
available at particularly favourable conditions and is quick to
install.
It is primarily used in smaller yachts and workboats.
* available soon
Series 2000/4000
blueline offers a more comprehensive solution.
This ship automation system was specially developed for
yachts by MTU in close cooperation with the shipbuilders but
it is also in service in patrol boats and workboats.
Series 2000/4000
bluevision provides the most luxurious and extensively
developed solution. The system is available in a fully
classifiable as well as a less complex non-classifiable version.
A particular feature is the system’s colour monitor which
affords an excellent overview of the vessel’s propulsion plant
as well as other monitored areas of the vessel.
bluevision is in service on yachts, passenger vessels, patrol
boats and workboats.

International Shipping - IMO
The MARPOL convention adopted by the InternationalMaritime Organization (IMO) sets out regulations on the prevention of air pollution from ships. One ofthese regulations sets limits on the NOx emissionfrom diesel engines with a power output of more than130 kW installed on vessels whose keel is laid afterJanuary 1, 2000 and which do not operate exclusivelyin national waters.> NOx limit dependent on engine rated speed (nn)> No limits for HC, CO, particulates and soot> Test cycle: ISO 8178-4, E2/E3/D2/C1 (acc. to engi-
ne operation; see chapter 6)> Test conditions: 25°C air temp. / 25°C water temp.
Rhine Vessel Inspection Regulation
The Rhine Vessel Inspection Regulation (Rheinschiff-fahrts-Untersuchungsordnung - RheinSchUO) passed bythe Central Commission for the Navigation on the Rhine(CCNR) sets out the following exhaust emission limits:Stage I (since 2003)
> Diesel engines above 37kW on board vessels> For engines above 130 kW and with a rated speed
between 500 and 2800 rpm the NOx limit corre-sponds to that of the IMO regulation
> Test cycle: ISO 8178-4, E2/E3/D2/C1 (acc. to engine operation, see chapter 6)
> Test condition: 25°C air temp. / 25°C water temp.
Stage II (as of July 2007*)
*Date of putting in service of the ship
> Test cycles and test conditions as Stage I> Alternatively, the limits for marine engines of EU-
Directive 97/68/EC, as amended by Directive2004/26/EC, may be applied (mutual recognition is agreed)

the emission limits will come into force 2 yearsafter the implementation date of the correspondingcommercial marine engines (test cycle E5)
> NTE (Not To Exceed): In certain sections of theengine performance map, emissions may not exceed 1.2 to 1.5 times the cycle limit. This requirement comes into force with the 2007 modelyear emissions standards for all categories
> ABT (Averaging, Banking and Trading) of emissioncredits is allowed.
> Compliance with the limits must be guaranteed over the useful life period of the engine
EU - Nonroad Directive 97/68/EC(as amended by 2004/26/EC)
The emission limits apply to propulsion engines ofinland vessels in EU-waters. The limits, as well as theengine categories correspond to the US-EPA marineregulation.

Lake Constance Shipping Ordinance(BSO)
Since 1996 the following emission limits apply fordiesel-powered craft:
Power Pn NOx CO HCkW g/kWh g/kWh g/kWh≤ 100 10 400 * Pn
-0,6505 30 * Pn-0,6505
> 100 10 20 3.375 * Pn-0,1761
> Additionally, recreational craft with diesel enginesmay not exceed the following mass emissions perhour:
- 1500 g/h for CO- 95 g/h for HC- 360 g/h for NOx
> Test cycle: BSO-9-mode-test (see chapter 6)> Test condition: 25°C air temp.> Smoke limit (at full load): Naturally aspirated
engines 3.5 Bosch units, supercharged engines 2.5 Bosch units
Norway
Tonnage taxes for vessels registered in Norway areassessed in accordance with the vessel’s impact onthe environment.
Sweden
Fees for using the inland waterways are calculated inproportion to the NOx-emissions of the ship at 75%load, on a linear scale from 2 g/kWh to 12 g/kWh.Additionally, harbors are authorized to charge harborfees dependent on the NOx emission of the ships.
Alaska
Alaska has passed a regulation (Alaska Marine Ves-sel Visible Emission Standard, AAC 50.070) statingthat the visible emissions of ocean going vessels atthe exhaust outlet may not reduce visibility by morethan 20%. Higher values are temporarily permissibleduring maneuvering.
