PAPER 1: SITUATIONAL WRITING (15 marks)
▪ Very particular about PAC
▪ Purpose / Audience / Context
▪ Pupils have to make a clear link between the action done by the character and the purpose of the writing (e.g. The good deeds show that he / she is very _____, hence I hope that you will consider him for the ….
▪ If not they would be penalised under PAC.
▪ Audience (depending on who the addressee is…)
▪ Tone has to be informal or formal and appropriate based on the Audience.

▪ Signing off has to be formal / informal (depending on the Addressee)
▪ Yours faithfully, / Yours sincerely,

▪ Best regards, / Kind regards,
Not appropriate for formal writing

Language Errors Major errors
▪ Tense errors, wrong verb forms, errors in subject-verb agreement
▪ Misuse of pronouns, prepositions, articles, conjunctions
▪ Errors in sentence construction
▪ Use of words and phrases that make meaning unclear
▪ Punctuation errors which affect sentence boundaries
▪ *Spelling errors which affect key information will cause pupils to be penalised under task fulfilment
▪ e.g. Delta Primary School spelt as ‘Delt’ or ‘Deta’ or ‘Deilta’
Continuous Writing Content
▪ A script that addresses the topic but does not use at least one of the pictures to develop the topic will not be placed in a band higher than 5-8
▪ A script that does not address the topic will be placed in the lowest band (1-4)
▪ Interest value relates to the candidate’s ability to engage the reader effectively. e.g. make writing more vivid, lively and convincing to create impact on reader. Use of dialogue, attention to details, varying sentence structures etc.
