Grammar Walkthrough 文法攻略

We use adverbs of frequency with the simple present tense to describe how often things happen.

頻率副詞通常配以簡單現在式使用,用來表示事件發生的頻率。

Usage

The adverb of frequency usually comes before the verb:

頻率副詞通常出現在動詞之前:

Gary often goes to the park, but he seldom plays ball games there.

But it comes after the verb ‘be’:

但動詞是「be」的時候,就應在動詞之後出現:

Janet is always late for school.

Aspect Present Past

Simple I do my homework. I did my homework.

Continuous I am doing my homework.

Key item (tense) of this school term: simple past tense

1. We use ‘There was/were …’ to talk about whether things existed in the past.

Was there an airport 20 years ago? Yes, there was.

Were there any smartphones 20 years ago? No, there weren’t.

2. We also use the simple past tense to talk about things that happened at a particular time in the past (e.g. at 10:00, at the weekend, last summer).

Noun / Pronoun + (verb + ed) / irregular verbs

Regular verbs end in ‘-ed’. play played, walk walked

Irregular verbs have different forms. go went, have/has had
