2018 ASAKURA NAOMI MEMORIAL DESIGN AWARD

A. Activity Purpose

To memorialize Professor Asakura Naomi, the Japanese master in basic design and art education, who was also a visiting professor in Kun Shan University from 2001 to 2003, and his contributions to Taiwan’s basic design and art education, Kun Shan University established “Asakura Naomi Memorial Design Award” in 2004. Since 2009, it has transformed from an on-campus competition to a national competition, and further expanded to Asia Pacific area in 2014. Since 2016, by holding this competition, talents are selected therefrom and given training to facili-tate them to participate in all international skill competitions. In addition to implementing basic design and art education, it also cultivates students to participate in international competitions, elevate its competitiveness, and promote the combination of basic design and applied design’s level and vision.

C. Eligibility

1. Whoever is passionate and interested in design may register to participate. The competition eligibility is divided into “Technical colleges group” and “Regular group” Participants outside of Taiwan shall register for the “Regular group”.2. Works completed by individuals or group may participate. When registering as a group, a representative must be noted and the organizer will contact the representative for any notices and awards.3. Serial artwork may be accepted and will be counted as (1) piece. An author may submit different artwork for up to three (3) pieces.

D. Registration

Online registration is used for all participants. Please register on the activity website at http://www.asakura-naomi.com.For group artwork, please have a representative register.

E. Submission Method and Artwork Format

Graphic design, Form and product design and Motion graphic that basic design and art is extended and applied.1. Graphic design application: including poster design, corporate identity system, typography design, and illustration.Materials to be submitted in the first stage of review:(1) Online registration and log-in to complete information for online registration.(2) Upload electronic files: To place the files into the folders, name the folders as “artwork name_representative name” and upload to the registration system after compressing it.

Timeline for 2018 Asakura Naomi Memorial Design Award:Online registration for the first stage: May 15, 2018 (Tue.) to June 15, 2018 (Fri.) 11:59PM (Taiwan Time).Announcement of the Selected Contestants for the first stage: before June 25, 2018 (Mon.).Artwork collection for the second stage: must be delivered between June 25, 2018 (Mon.) and July 9, 2018 (Mon.).

(a) Artwork specification for poster design, typography design and illustration:PDF files: (W) 70 cm x (H) 100 cm (vertical), CMYK colors, 300dpi, file size not exceeding 30MB.JPEG files: A3 (vertical), RGB colors, 300dpi, file size not exceeding 10MB.(b) Artwork specification for corporate identity system:Photographs of the artwork identity is needed: RGB color, JPEG file, 3-5 frames and the file size of each photo not exceeding 3MB.Materials to be submitted for the second stage of review:(1) Submission of artwork in hardcopy:(a) Submission of hardcopy is not required for poster design, typography design and illustration, which will be printed by the Organizer in A3 sizes. (b) For corporate identity system: please properly pack the hardcopy and then mail along with the label of graphic artwork (Appendix 1).

2. Form and product design application: packaging design and product designArtwork materials are not limited and the size may not exceed (L) 45 cm x (W) 45 cm x (H) 45cmMaterials to be submitted in the first stage of review:(1) Online registration and log-in to complete information for online registration.(2) Upload electronic files:Photographs of the artwork identity is needed: RGB color, JPEG file, 3-5 frames and the file size of each photo not exceeding 3MB.To place the files into the folders, name the folders as “artwork name_representative name” and upload to the registration system after compressing it.Materials to be submitted for the second stage of review:(1) Submission of artwork in hardcopy:Please properly pack the hardcopy and then mail along with the label of form and product design (Appendix 2).

3. Motion graphic : 2D and 3D animation are both allowed.The length of the video shall be within 5 minutes, in quicktime or mov format with a resolution of at least 1920 x 1080.(1) Online registration and log-in to complete information for online registration.(2) Upload electronic files:Submission of 6 screenshots of the video is needed in JPEG format (resolution 1920 x 1080) and upload it.To place the files into the folders, name the folders as “artwork name_representative name” and upload to the registration system after compressing it.Upload the video to a personal YouTube or youku channel (set as private) and copy the link to the registration system.

4. Announcement of the Selected Contestants for the second stage: before July 13, 2018 (Fri.)Announcement of award and award ceremony: Mid-October of 2018.Artwork interchange exhibition: from the mid-October to the end of October of 2018.

G. Selection Process

2018 Asakura Naomi Memorial Design Award:The review committee will select excellent artworks for the first and second stages, and the shortlisted artwork will be announced on the website and separately notified by email. The participants with shortlist artworks will attend the award ceremony in mid-October of 2018 and the awarded artwork will be announced in the ceremony of the exhibition.

Gold: 1 person, NTD 20,000 and a certificate (student and advisor).Silver: 2 persons, NTD 10,000 and a certificate (student and advisor).Bronze: 3 persons, NTD 7,000 and a certificate (student and advisor).Excellence: 4 persons, NTD 5,000 and a certificate (student and advisor).Outstanding: 5 persons, NTD 3,000 and a certificate (student and advisor).Shortlisted: several, a certificate (student).Supervisor Award: 3 persons, a certificate.
