Over the last year:

EDUCATION

• 5,644 students were visited in 247 classrooms by Real Men Read volunteers who read to students and distributed 21,257 books.

• 670 children were served at agency partners; of those children, 87 percent achieved developmental milestones. All agency partner childcare centers are nationally accredited.

• 91 percent of youth participating in after school programs at agency partners had improved school attendance.

INCOMEOver the last year:

• 2,029 tax returns were prepared through the Free Tax Prep Program, a 27 percent increase over the previous year.

• Taxpayers who completed returns through the Free Tax Prep Program received more than $3 million in returns, which was a 23 percent increase from 2011.

• 31 wheelchair ramps were built and 226 pieces of adaptive equipment were loaned to those in need.

HEALTHOver the last year:

• 5,735 individuals received 12,464 dental visits. 66 percent of those patients were uninsured and the remaining 34 percent were under-insured.

• 11,446 individuals received 37,594 medical appointments, of which 1,950 were children under five years of age.

• 660 riders with specialized transportation needs received 21,926 trips for health care.

BASIC NEEDSOver the last year:

• Northeast Indiana’s 2-1-1 Services, supported by Lutheran Health Network, continue to grow; since its first full year of service in 2004, call volume is up 118 percent, from 20,339 to 44,271.

• In the first two business days following the June storm that affected thousands of residents in northeast Indiana, 2-1-1 staff handled nearly 250 disaster-related calls in addition to standard calls. For the month of July, nearly 500 disaster-related referrals were made.

• 93,230 individuals received food to prepare 1,381,981 meals.
