We use the Outward Bound approach ofexperiential learning in the outdoors to challenge and inspire leaders in divided societies to build peace.

We work with partners around the worldto design experiential peace building programs that encourage compassionateleadership, cooperative learning and creative action.

Where the learning occursOur course will be held within the Sierra Norte region of Oaxaca, one of the three richest areas of wildlife diversity in the country with more than 400 species of birds, 350 species of butterflies and 6,000 species of plants. Considered by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) one of the most important areas of the planet due to this biodiversity.

TOPICS

The format of this course is residential. This means that we will have day experiences and spend the nights staying in mountain cabins with all the services included.

The educational program, the adventure components and the socio-environmental interaction experiences take place both inside and outside our facilities in the Sierra Norte region of Oaxaca.

Ground transportation from Mexico City to O a x a c a a n d l o c a l transfers are included.

INSTRUCTOROUTWARD BOUND PEACEBUILDING

ANA PATELAna Patel is the Executive Director of the Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding, Ana brings over 20 years of experience to this position, including professional experiences in peacebuilding, development and human rights, with organizations such as the International Center for Transitional Justice, the United Nations Development Programme, the Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs, the Carnegie Commission on Preventing Deadly Conflict and The Andean Development Bank.

She has taught as an Adjunct Lecturer with the Center for International Conflict Resolution at Columbia University since 2001. Her co-edited volume, Disarming the Past: Transitional Justice and Ex-combatants was published in January 2010. Ana is a Returned U.S. Peace Corps volunteer. She did her service in the Dominican Republic. She graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon and received a Master’s of International Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. In 2015, Ana was honored as an International Rotary Peace Fellow.
