Outram School Newsletter Volume 2 Number 10 – 5 July 2018 OUTRAM SCHOOL VISION – A school where children strive for excellence, love learning, develop their passions and reach their potential Dear Parents Tēnā koutou, kia ora koutou katoa Reports Mid-Year Progress and Achievement Reports will be sent home with your child(ren) tomorrow afternoon. The Reading, Writing and Mathematics report will also arrive via email and be available through the parent portal of EDGE from around 2.00 pm. These are the first reports issued after the removal of National Standards. For the most part, the redesigned reports are very similar to the reports developed in earlier years. To report progress and achievement, we are using the New Zealand Curriculum levels. We indicate the curriculum level your child is consistently and successfully working in Reading, Writing and Mathematics We indicate the curriculum level we ideally want your child to be consistently, and successfully, working at the end of the transition years; Year 2, Year 4, Year 6, and Year 8. In the report explanation, we include an illustration to show it is expected and normal for children in any one year level to be working at different curriculum levels. A more detailed explanation of the reports is in each folder. The other Learning Area reports (Inquiry, Arts, Health, Physical Education) are in the same format as previous years but have been produced via Google Docs so have a slightly different look. This year, we are sending the report cover folders home once and ask that you add to the folder when the Term 4 reports arrive home. Room 2 children, who enrolled later in Term 2, will receive their first report in Term 4. A lot of fun, and very vocal house support, at last week’s tug o’ war. Thank you to all the parents who turned up. It was nice to share this school event with you. The winning house will be announced at tomorrow’s assembly. CAPES Assembly Tomorrow we hold our first CAPES assembly for the year, with an earlier start time of 2.15 pm. Congratulations to all students who will be recognised with a CAPES award at this assembly. We look forward to celebrating further success at the Term 3 and 4 CAPES assemblies. I wish all members of our school community, staff, children and parents a restful break in the next two weeks. We will welcome everyone back refreshed and recharged for Term 3. Nga mihi nui

School Notices

Flybuys, Farmlands Choices, FarmSource Rewards, SmartTrade Vouchers … Do you have award points which are about to expire? Do you have so many points you aren’t sure what to do with them? Would you consider using them to get something to donate to Friends of Outram School (FOS) to use as a raffle prize? FOS are always on the lookout for prizes and would very much welcome store vouchers, toys, houseware or anything else appropriate to offer as a prize for a school fundraiser. It’s a great way of contributing to the school without feeling like you have put your hand in your pocket and would reduce the need to ask local businesses for donations each time we fundraise. Any contributions would be very gratefully received at the school office. Thanks, Friends of Outram School Committee 😊

Bags of Kindling for Sale – your child would have brought home a grey order

form earlier this week. The kindling will be for sale after assembly tomorrow or you can order by filling in the form and returning it to the school office with your money by 3rd August 2018. This is a fundraiser for Friends of Outram School in conjunction with Taieri Rotary.
