SAVING Tackling raising funds
You’re looking at the total amount thinking ‘eek! I’ll never do it’.
Think about it differently—what could you save before even
doing any activities to raise funds?
How much could you save if you don’t get any presents for
Christmas just money? Let’s say £300
What about birthdays? You’ll probably have two between now and your expedition so that’s another £200
Forget Easter eggs & gifts, chocolate is overrated right! - £50 in the pot
Think about all those little treats you buy yourself – magazines, chocolates, clothes – cut down on these or forget them altogether, you could be saving £200 between now and then (it won’t be easy but think of the end goal!)
Save £10 a week from your allowance (over 18 months) – that’s around £200
Total it up: £950 raised
Left to raise: approx. £2500 = £140 per month/£35 per week (based on 18 months)

TIPS Top tips for raising funds
We are here every step of the way to help you with ideas and motivation.
Babysitting – do you know anyone locally who needs a babysitter?
Car washing – ask around, even just in the street you live
Corporate sponsorship - you could offer to wear sponsored clothing
Cake stall – try selling traditional cakes from the country you’re going to
Craft fair – make the goods yourself and/or ask others to sell items and charge a small fee
Christmas cards – make your own cards to sell to family and friends
School tuck shop – run it as a business making small profits
Non-uniform day – ask for donations to come to school in non-uniform
Supplier discounts—make use of discounts we’ve negotiated on your behalf
Worried how you’re going to fit this around school work, clubs and seeing your
friends? Think about what is realistic. Maybe one afternoon a week or pack lots of
activities into the holidays. If you plan ahead you could really make the most of
the times you’re off school and still manage to fit in everything else.

STORY FROM A PAST EXPEDITIONER:
One of our favourite stories is of an Expeditioner who bought
lots of old plates from eBay. He then sold them at £2.50 each
at local village fairs to be smashed against a wall. He raised
£1000 doing this and sold the remaining plates back to eBay
for more than he’d paid in the first place! Genius.
The only barrier is your
own imagination

Raising the funds diary
Firstly—what could you save anyway—Christmas, birthdays, Easter, pocket
money, going cold turkey on magazines or new computer games? Are your
family going to contribute? Take that all away from the total cost to see what
you’re left with. Then it’s time to get planning activities.
Total cost of the expedition £
The amount I think I can save from my
everyday life (& family contributions) £
Total I have to raise £
CAN I SAY I’M RAISING MONEY FOR CHARITY?
We are often asked about the charitable side of this expedition.
In a nutshell: you are raising funds to pay for yourself to go on expedition.
Outposts Ltd is not a charity. Although the time you spend working on the
community project is a very important and fulfilling part of the expedition
‘experience’, most of your fee will not go towards that. It will pay for your
flights, accommodation, food, national park entry fees etc and for you to have a
life-changing experience.
Good luck!
