Assistant’s Role• Aid in the maintenance of the environment• Be a role model• Help children to do it themselves – only assist

• Observe first!!• Be neutral/no preconceived notions• Keep 2nd plane characteristics in mind• Keep self-construction in mind• Offer suggestions such as:– “where is your work?”– “Are you interested in this work?”– “Do you need suggestions about choosing work?”– Perhaps offer for them to look in work journals/daily

plan/goals, work in progress– “Is there a type of work you really want to do right

now?”

Observe Guide as well as Students(handout)

• Observe children in a group as well as individually

• Observe and note teacher’s mannerisms• Write down notes and questions• Ask for a regularly scheduled time to meet

with the Guide
