The orthopaedic patient can be one of the most demanding and technically complicated patients that you will care for. Treatment and management techniques are constantly changing in this evolving specialty and it is essential to keep up to date with the most current treatments to ensure the best outcomes for your patients.

Join our experienced orthopaedic speaker, Patricia Ryan, RN, mSN, ANP-BC, and gain the most cutting-edge assessment, management, and treatment strategies for the wide range of orthopedic patients that you will treat. Patricia draws from her many years of diverse experience to enhance your orthopaedic assessment skills through visuals of orthopaedic tests and practical case study exercises and give you the latest advances in diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities for orthopaedic conditions across the lifespan. You will learn the latest in clinical guidelines for both adult and pediatric fracture care, orthopaedic trauma, sports medicine and treatment for degenerative joint disorders. You will leave this seminar with the most up-to-date tools and strategies to care for orthopaedic conditions from the total age spectrum.

Patricia ryan, rn, MSn, AnP-BC, began her career in orthopedics 26 years ago working as a medical secretary in New York City. Working throughout RN school at the practice, she stayed in orthopedics for seven years. After moving to Kansas City and working on the med/surg, orthopedic floor for 10 years, she continued her educational path and achieved a Bachelors and master’s degree from University of missouri, Kansas City. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Belfast, maine and she worked for the only hospitalist group in town. Breaking out of the hospital, Patty opened up her own “house call” NP practice prior to moving to California.

Coming full circle, Patty has returned to orthopedics, now as a nurse practitioner. She performs pre-op examinations, office visits and post-operative care. Her clinical skills include intra-articular injections as well as casting procedures. Patty has also initiated the “Own the Bone” program for the treatment of osteoporosis as a major step in primary prevention of hip fractures, especially for women.

Patty has taught high school students who were interested in working in the healthcare field and is on the faculty at the University of Phoenix. She has worked as a hospitalist, eR provider, an outpatient provider in a multi-disciplinary clinic and now restarted her “house call” practice in Palm Springs, California. Patty also achieved the educator of the Year award for her work with the American Heart Association in 2013.

Speaker disclosures:

Financial: Patricia Ryan has an employment relationship with Primary Critical Care medical Group. She receives a speaking honorarium from PeSI, Inc.

Non-financial: Patricia Ryan is a member of the California Nurse Practitioner Association and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
