FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

General Information:► All seams are sewn with a ¼" seam allowance.► Pre-wash and press with spray starch.► WOF = Width of Fabric from selvage to selvage.► Press all seams open as will decrease bulk.► Finished Block is 12" square.► Sashing is 3" x 12" rectangle.► Sashing Cornerstones are 3" square.► Sashing will ROTATE to show the background blocks.

Step 1: Cutting the Fabric

1. Fabric A: 23473 X• Cut (4) strips at 10½" x WOF – Sub-cut into (10) 10½"

squares – Block A.

2. Fabric B: 23474 A• Cut (4) strips at 10½" x WOF – Sub-cut into (10) 10½"

squares – Block B.

3. Fabric C: 23477 E• Cut (1) strip at 10½" x WOF – Sub-cut into (20) 1½" x

10½" rectangles and cut (1) strip at 12½" x WOF – Sub-cut into (20) 1½" x 12½" rectangles – Block A.

4. Fabric D: 23477 K• Cut (1) strip at 10½" x WOF – Sub-cut into (20) 1½" x

10½" rectangles and cut (1) strip at 12½" x WOF – Sub-cut into (20) 1½" x 12½" rectangles – Block B.

5. Fabric E: 23542 EA• Cut (3) strips at 4½" x WOF – Sashing (Light).

6. Fabric F: 23475 JA• Cut (3) strips at 4½" x WOF – Sashing (Dark).

7. Fabric G: 23476 A• Cut (3) strips at 4½" x WOF – Sashing (Medium).

8. Fabric H 23475 JG• Cut as follows:

a. Cut (2) strips at 3½" x WOF – Sub-cut into (12) 3½" squares – Sashing Rows.

b. Cut (8) strips at 5¼" x WOF – Sew all the strips together at the 5¼" edge. Sub-cut into (2) 5¼" x 74½" rectangles (Left and Right Sides) and (2) 5¼" x 69” rectangles (Top and Bottom) – Outer Border.

9. Fabric I: 23477 T• Cut (7) strips at 1½" x WOF – Sew all the strips together

at the 1½" edge. Sub-cut into (2) 1½" x 72½" rectangles (Left and Right Sides) and (2) 1½" x 59½" rectangles (Top and Bottom) – Inner Border.

Step 2: Block A

10. Sew (1) Fabric C 1½" x 10½" rectangle to the top and bottom of (1) Fabric A 10½" square.

11. Sew (1) Fabric C 1½" x 12½" rectangle to each side to finish the block at 12½" square.

12. Repeat until completed a total of (10) blocks – Label“Block A” and set aside for use later.

Step 3 – Block B:

13. Sew (1) Fabric D 1½" x 10½" rectangle to the topand bottom of (1) Fabric B 10½" square.

14. Sew (1) Fabric D 1½" x 12½" rectangle to each side to finish the block at 12½" square.

15. Repeat until completed a total of (10) blocks – Label “Block B” and set aside for use later.

Step 4 – Sashing Rectangle:

16. Sew (1) of each strip together to make a new strip at 12½" x WOF --- Fabric E 4½"( Light), Fabric F, 4½" (Dark), and Fabric G 4½" ( Medium) – Make (3) 12½" strips – Sub-cut into (31) 12½" x 3½" rectangles.

17. Label “Sashing” and set aside for use later.

Step 5 – Sewing the Quilt Center:Note: Refer to the cover picture as a guide as the SASHING will rotate with the LIGHT to the left, right, top, or bottom within each row There are (5) rows of Blocks with Sashing and (4) rows of just Sashing. All rows will measure 57½" wide. Sew the rows together from LEFT to RIGHT. The BLOCK rows are sewn together at the 12½" edge and the SASHING rows are sewn together at the 3½" edge.

*** Label all rows when sewn to make it easier when sewing the rows together.

18. Sew the Blocks and Sashing together as follows to make the rows:

a. Block Rows 1, 3, and 5: Block B, Sashing (Light at Top), Block A, Sashing (Light at Bottom), Block B, Sashing (Light at Top), Block A.

b. Block Rows 2 and 4: Block A, Sashing (Light at Bottom), Block B, Sashing (Light at Top), Block A, Sashing (Light at Bottom), Block B.

c. Sashing Rows 1 and 3: Light at Left, Fabric H 3½" square, Light at Right, Fabric H 3½" square, Light at Left, Fabric H 3½" square, Light at Right.

d. Sashing Rows 2 and 4" Light at Right, Fabric H 3½" square, Light at Left, Fabric H 3½" square, Light at Right, Fabric H 3½" square, Light at Left.

19. Sew the rows together – Row 1, Sashing 1, Row 2, Sashing 2, Row 3, Sashing 3, Row 4, Sashing 4, Row 5 to finish the center at 57½" x 72½".

Step 6 – Adding the Borders:

20. Sew (1) Fabric I 1½" x 72½" rectangle to the LEFT and RIGHT sides to measure 59½" x 72½".

21. Sew (1) Fabric I 1½" x 59½" rectangle to the TOP and BOTTOM to finish the Inner Border at 59½" x 74½".

22. Sew (1) Fabric H 5¼" x 74½" rectangle to the LEFT and RIGHT sides to measure 69" x 74½".

23. Sew (1) Fabric H 5¼" x 69" rectangle to the TOP and BOTTOM to finish the Outer Border and quilt top at 69" x 84".

Step 7 – Finishing the Quilt:

24. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top and quilt as desired.

25. Using #23078-J (Black) – Cut (8) strips at 2½" x WOF for the binding.
