LUNCH OR SNACK
Per Sergio: A place that I like close to the W hotel is a ‘De bakkerswinkel’ - which translates to ‘TheBakeryshop’ on Warmoesstraat 69.
They have great (home made) bread / sandwiches, salads, cakes etc and a funky (convertedworkshop) interior.
It’s a also a stone throw away form where I like to start yeh tour. If you like I can come and pickyou up there
Another trendy place could be Walem or Morlang (they are neighbours) both of which (weatherpermitting) also have a great terrace an the canal, on Keizersgracht 449 & 451.
Per Katharina: I can't believe I forgot to mention the Bakhuys! Best bakery in town, hands down. Alongsidetheir amazing freshly baked goods, they serve excellent coffee, and the lunches there aresuperb and cheap (which makes it a favorite spot for students). It's right around the cornerfrom Terry's office, so we often meet there for lunch.
Others:Winkel 43 (apple pie), Pancake Bakery, The Pantry, Kitchen de Bjenkorf, Café de Klepel, WilGraanstra Fritchuis(herring) Seasons

Per Katharina:To eat, I would suggest getting Indonesian food at least once, and this is the restaurant to goto. Be aware, it's slightly pricey, and you need to come hungry because it's a lot of food. Also, Iwould make reservations because it's a tiny hole in the wall, and it fills up quickly.

Traditional Dutch food consist of a lot of pickled fish, which should be sampled from theVishuisje Herengracht. This is a street vendor who is located on the same street as theIndonesian place. You can google the exact location. Speaking of fish, if you like it smoked, then you need to try smoked mackerel. It's famous here, and you can buy it filleted from anyfish shop and eat it with cheese and a good bottle of wine from a super market. The mainsupermarket is Albert Heijn, and they're every where in Amsterdam, just look for the powderblue AH letters.
On this same street is the best and most non-touristy cheese shop in Amsterdam.Broodjeszaak Loekie Delicatessen. My dad has been going here for years, and I'm finally ona first-name basis with all the family members who work there. Samples are free, but only ifyou intend to buy. They will cube any Dutch cheese for you to take and eat in a park or on thego. Their charcuterie is also unbelievably good. They make sandwiches too, which I haven'ttried, but they have an excellent reputation amongst locals.
For another cheaper food option, head to De Foodhallen. It's an upscale food court, attachedto a classic movie theatre and a local crafts shop. It reminds me of a larger, better version ofthe Krog Street market in Atlanta.
For beer, you need to stop off at Brouwerij 't IJ. They also sell cubed cheese and meats as acheap snack, and the entire operation is housed in a windmill, so go on a nice day forpictures.
Per Eric:Café de Klos and Sampurna
