WIN A SIGNED COPY

‘Moonlight Over Mayfair’ by ANTON DU BEKE

Tickets £5 for 5 entries from Burway Books

Ros, Hilary and Gwen had the pleasure of

meeting Strictly Come Dancing star Anton du

Beke at a recent Book Fair. Anton very

kindly signed a copy of his new romantic

novel (described by Santa Montefiore as

“Downton with dance” ) and we have decided

to raffle this to raise money for a local charity

that helps young people entering further and

higher education: Caitlin’s Kickstart Award.

Caitlin Hurcombe, in whose memory the charity was founded,

loved dance and romantic novels, and some past recipients have

entered the field of performing arts. Pete Postlethwaite was an

early patron.

Tickets are £5 for 5 entries. The winner will be drawn by Linda

Hurcombe, Caitlin’s mother and author of the novel ‘The Jesse

Tree’, after the closing time of 12.00 noon on Saturday 30th

November. Please see website or in shop for full T&Cs.

THE GREEN ROASTING TIN

It’s not often that we feature a cookery book in our Newsletters,

but you may have noticed ‘The Green Roasting Tin’ at No 14 on

our latest bestsellers list. It has been flying off our shelves since we

first stocked it, with its easy one-tin recipes and wide appeal to

anyone wanting to follow a more plant-based diet.

Although all of the recipes are vegetarian or vegan, the omnivores

amongst you can quite easily add your favourite meat or fish to

any of the dishes.

“It’s always the small decisions that change a life.” Joanna Cannon, ‘Three Things About Elsie’

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

JOANNA CANNON ‘Breaking & Mending’

in conversation with David Howard Thursday 28th November, 7.30pm

at URC Hall, High Street, Church Stretton, SY6 6BY

Tickets £5 from Burway Books

Meet Joanna Cannon, bestselling novelist of ‘The Trouble with

Goats and Sheep’ and ‘Three Things About Elsie’. Joanna will be in

conversation with David Howard about her recently published

memoir: ‘Breaking & Mending: A junior doctor's stories of

compassion & burnout’.

In a profession where weakness remains a taboo; this moving,

and beautifully written memoir brings to life the vivid human

stories of doctors and their patients - Joanna shows us why we

need to take better care of those who care for us.

“A few years ago, I found myself in A&E. I had never felt so ill. I was

mentally and physically broken. So fractured, I hadn’t eaten properly or

slept well, or even changed my expression for months. I sat in a cubicle,

behind paper-thin curtains and I shook with the effort of not crying. I

was an inch away from defeat… but I knew I had to carry on. Because

I wasn’t the patient. I was the doctor.”

Joanna will be answering questions and then signing copies of

her books after the talk.

PLEASE BUY YOUR TICKETS EARLY—WE EXPECT

THIS EVENT TO SELL OUT!
