“If there’s a way to do it better, then find it,” inventor Thomas Alva Edison once said. As always, individuality is the key to economic success, even in public transport. In particular, IT solutions that exactly meet company requirements create competitive advantages and increase passenger satisfaction.

THE UFHO SYSTEM SIMPLIFIES THE OPERATIONAL PROCESSES OF TRANSPORT COMPANIESWith the UFHO system, we offer public and private transport companies a modern one-stop solution in electronic fare management, passenger information and communication. The modular structure and the multi-layer architecture of the software makes it intuitive to use. This increases productivity and customer satisfaction and speeds up operations within the organization. The UFHO system also has a smart back office where central data can be managed. UFHO logs each process in detail. This includes revenue sharing and billing, monitoring of all shifts, accounts of employees at the headquarters and within the coverage area, management and control of all connected peri- pherals, monitoring and processing of rates, master data, and contacts.

The modular UFHO system offers IT solutions for the central areas of:

– Background system with rate manager – Subscription management– Mobile ticket sales– Mobile control and EBE (penalty fares) recording – Stationary advance sales– Webshop– Vehicle system with real-time recording and customer information

Master data and rates, lines and stops, as well as shifts or data concerning “penalty fares” can thus be monitored. Moreover, the UFHO inspection module determines quickly and reliably whether the passenger has a valid ticket. Thanks to real- time communication, the UFHO system ensures seamless and transparent passenger information in the event of traffic jams, accidents or other delays of the timetable.

UFHO EXCELS WITH ITS STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGYUFHO stands for comprehensive, flexible, hard-ware-independent and open. The modular structure and the multi-layer archi-tecture of the software makes it intuitive to use and we can respond explicitly to the wishes of our customers. Customers decide which mobile and/or stationary devices should be used and what other requirements they have for the software. The “VDV KA” (Association of German Transport Companies core application) standards are, of course, taken into account. Whether on buses, trains or ships, our software is used wherever new IT solutions for modern mobility concepts are in demand.

UFHO AT A GLANCE

UFHO BACKGROUND SYSTEM THE CORE OF THE UFHO SYSTEM

To be up-to-date you need a system that stores data centrally and which organizes the daily work of transport companies to handle shift schedules, management of penalty fares or equipment administration. These features are possible with AMCON’s UFHO background system. As the core of the UFHO application, the background system includes a comprehensive device, shift and user adminis-tration as well as the rate module, where visualization and processing of multiple rates is possible, rate versions with validity periods can be created, and tickets can be edited in the layout editor. The standard communication module ensures connections to UFHO clients and third-party systems. The desired scope of services is combined within the UFHO licensing model for each customer to optimize daily requirements.

UFHO MODULES FOR SMOOTH RUNNING OF DAILY REQUIREMENTS Other modules of the UFHO background system include penalty fares administration, administration of lines and stops, and numerous statistical functions. With the Vendor Account Management module, change, account statements, and chargebacks can be easily managed, and sales limits can be set. In addition, the UFHO application manages any number of devices effortlessly and the access rights of the individual devices can be edited individually, for example to subsequently add or remove restrictions. A clear presen-tation of the program-, rates-, layout-, and master data versions available on the device provides a good overview. Additionally, the device status, location, and last commu-nication process can be conveniently traced.

THE RATE MANAGER MERGES DATA ACROSS RATESThe UFHO rate manager can combine and manage different rates over a wide range of formats in one rate model to facilitate multi-route distribution. Stops located in multiple rate zones are assigned by context to the correct rate zone when sold. The rate administration is simple and intuitive. In addition, it is set only once for all sales channels. Centrally maintained association rates, which must not be changed, can be easily imported. We use the manufacturer- independent standard interface, HUSST, to supply the distribution devices with current rate data.

UFHO BACKGROUND SYSTEM WITH INTEGRATED RATE MANAGER

REVENUE MANAGEMENT: PROCESSING OF SALES DATA AND REVENUES FROM PENALTY FARESThe sales data from the most diverse sales channels are combined in the UFHO background system. The data can origi-nate from advance sale systems, ticket machines, bus printers or mobile sales devices. Revenues from mobile and on-line tickets are also processed.

NEW FUNCTIONS PROVIDE FOR EVEN BETTER DATA MANAGEMENTWe are constantly expanding the UFHO background system to make it easier for public transport companies to work with additional func-tions and modules. That is why there is now also an extended subledger accounting, which serves the tracking of cash containers for ticket machines, among other things. For example, whether the money con-tainers are still in the ticket machine or at the cash center, both factors can be tracked. The fees are posted directly in UFHO.

PAPER TRACKING FOR MORE SECURITYThe Paper Tracking module enables complete documentation of ticket paperwork to prevent ticket counterfeiting, which inevitably involves a high loss of revenue. With paper roll tracking, the roll numbers can be tracked from delivery by the paper manufacturer to insertion into the printer. In the paper section tracking area, the whereabouts of the paper roll are tracked, and paper consumption is also monitored. For this purpose, the barcodes on the back of the paper are scanned and assigned to the created tickets and receipts.

Small and medium-sized enterprises, who have no personnel administration system, profit from the subscriber administration. Large companies with their own personnel management system achieve added value through the import inter- faces, as an automatic comparison with the personnel database takes place. Personnel changes are thus registered directly and appropriate measures initiated.

EXTENDED SUBSCRIPTION MANAGEMENT Moreover, the UFHO subscription management has been extended by several functions. Special e-tickets, such as 10-ticket bundles, can be traced and you can determine when each ticket was redeemed. In addition, the discount price rates can now be set in advance. Trans-port companies can determine how many tickets should be sold at what price at peak times. The Customer Management module is used to assign customers to specific vehicles.

UFHO SUBSCRIPTION MANAGEMENT: INTUITIVE TICKET SALES FOR CUSTOMERS AND SERVICE EMPLOYEESThe UFHO subscription management system serves as an electronic billing interface as well as an information system for large and corporate customers. The system actively supports them in managing corporate and customer tickets. With the Subscription Management module, transport companies pro-vide their customers with a tool to support them in all matters related to customer, company or student tickets. In particular, the time-consuming area of billing and ticket management can be made more efficient with the Subscription Manage-ment module. Transport companies and suppliers of company tickets can considerably increase customer satisfaction through the subscription management service. The Subscription Management module avoids typical sources of error and provides customer data for further processing in electronic form.

UFHO STATIONARYADVANCE SALES SYSTEMS

SAFE AND EASY SALES WITH THE UFHO SALES SYSTEMAdvance sales are strikingly easy with the UFHO sales system, which consists of proven PC-based hardware components and the powerful UFHO sales application. This combination offers transport companies comfortable and safe ticket sales across all routes. The employee at the advance sale system is automatically offered a suitable ticket with the timetable information. In addition, special features such as what is covered by the ticket or specific ticket groups can be displayed to the seller. To speed up the sales process even more, the app displays the best-selling products as favorites. In addition, the advance sales system is suitable as a commercial POS system, which means fixed-price tickets or complementary products such as souvenirs can be easily sold in combination. The parking of documents or the control of various external components, such as additional receipt printers, cash drawers or payment terminals, are, of course, part of the functionality.

ADVANCE SALES ALSO ONLINE VIA WEB-BASED INFORMATION SERVICEThe UFHO Advance Sales module enables the main-tenance of master data directly via the presale device. Inventory management of souvenir items can also be carried out via the UFHO module to prevent bottlenecks from occurring and to ensure reorders can be placed in good time. The data exchange with the UFHO background system is configured individually, and the sales functions are also available offline. After the cash shift has been complet-ed, various sales analyses can be called up and created in the background system with the statistics module. Of particular importance are cash register security and tamper-proof accounting, which are taken into account in the design of the UFHO sales module. The public transport companies can also easily and quickly adjust the cash register interface with the layout editor.

TICKET CHECK: PASSENGER-FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENTUnfortunately, not every passenger holds a valid ticket, which makes ticket inspections essential. Future-oriented software and modern readers not only help to minimize the time required for each check, but also quickly and reliably determine whether the ticket or card is valid. All current machine-readable tickets with 2D barcode, mobile phone tickets, and chip cards are checked. That includes verification against the VDV-KA standard. In addition, the UFHO inspection application has been enhanced with a message function that allows the control center to send inspection plans or other information directly to the employee’s mobile device.

NETWORKED AND CLEAR PENALTY FARE RECORDINGOur module for handling penalty fares or fees gives the passenger attendants the opportunity to record and detail any penalty fare cases di-rectly. The information from a ticket inspection is transferred to the UFHO background system and the recorded data for issuing a penalty fare notice is automatically transferred. The system checks specified addresses directly for their existence. If a penalty fare concerns an invalid ticket, UFHO stores all the authorizations available on the ticket or card. This allows the central office clerks to grasp the precise facts and inform the customer of the missing or invalid access. Convenient filter and search functions as well as detailed analysis options simplify the work. Data interfaces with debt collection providers are also available.

Even transport companies cannot avoid the digitization of our society and must adapt to new circumstances. When selling and checking tickets, it is therefore necessary to rely on mobile solutions that meet company requirements and thereby create competitive advantages. With the UFHO system, we offer an innovative one- stop-shop solution for public and private trans-port companies in fare management, eTicket-ing, mobile control, and penalty fee collection. In addition, we provide end-user apps with our interface, which allows them to access our sales platforms over the Internet.

MOBILE TICKET SALES ON ANY DESIRED DEVICEThe UFHO sales app ensures comfortable, multi-rate and time-saving ticket sales. The application is intuitive to use and hardware-independent. The customer can decide which device to use, since our software is compatible with many mo-bile devices such as data acquisition terminals, tablets and smartphones with different function-alities and operating systems. For devices with Android operating systems, additional external applications can be activated. Devices with SAM ports are also suitable for VDV-KA-compliant inspection of electronic tickets.

Depending on the start and destination points, the system determines the fare zone. Special features, such as what is covered by the ticket, are immediately displayed and taken into ac-

count when the ticket is issued. For line-depen-dent sales, only applicable stops are displayed automatically. To speed sales, the app displays popular products as favorites. After completion of a shift, various analyses can be called up with the statistics module in the UFHO background system.

SALE OF TICKETS VIA END USER APPS OF THE TRANSPORT COMPANIESSince many public transport companies already use their own end-user apps that map time- tables, start-to-destination routes and networks, AMCON can provide the apps with interfaces that can directly access the sales platforms. This opens up another distribution channel in existing apps, which guarantees passengers a simple and time-saving ticket purchase.

To speed up the movement of the buses through traffic, the UFHO system in vehicles can influence both local analogue- and digi-tal-radio as well as mobile radio-based traffic light signal systems. The pre-, main- and de-registrations will take place by sending data telegrams to light signal system points.

CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE DRIVER THROUGH UFHO MESSAGE FUNCTIONThe message function in the UFHO system allows the control center and drivers to com-municate with each other. This enables the driver to send standard texts generated in the background system, so that no text input is required. The control center has a free-text function. If, for example, the route is blocked, the control center can send a pdf file showing a detour route directly to the driver.

Unfortunately, traffic jams, rush-hour and accidents cannot be avoided. In these situations, it is important to react quickly and reliably, so that passengers can be informed about deviations to the timetable and, if necessary, can change to substitute lines. With the computer-aided operation control system, the passenger information is taken to a new level and connection security is significantly improved. In addition to the optimized operational work processes, the service quality is also increased, which ultimately is because the operations can be more transparent and irregularities can be detected more quickly due to the computer-aided operation control system.

The buses relay their position to the UFHO computer-aided operation control system server. This exact position of the vehicles is visual-ized on a map. The bus receives data about the bus station routes display, which gives information about the route, arrival times and delays. The more buses and trains are connected to combined data hubs, the greater the quality of the regional public transport system will be, since the information network of each vehicle increases and passengers benefit. Thanks to the innovative IBIS Bluetooth adapter, all devices in the bus are controlled with a tablet, such as the validator and the exterior and interior displays. If delays occur, anticipatory measures can be implemented based on the transmitted GPS data in the VDV standard and communicated directly to the passengers via apps, loudspeaker announcements or displays.

SMART ON THE ROAD IN SATERLAND: CONTROL OF INDOOR AND OUTDOOR DISPLAYS THANKS TO INNOVATIVE IBIS BLUETOOTH ADAPTER

Space-saving, easy to install and use, Wilhelm Janssen Omnibusbetrieb relies on our innovative UFHO software solution for ticket sales in the VGC fare zone. Samsung Active Tab tablets serve as a reliable user interface and as an on-board computer for the UFHO system, which displays ticket sale processes, routes, and timetables. Interior and external displays are controlled with innova-tive ÖPNV-Service Bluetooth adapters. The sales data are transmitted via WLAN or mobile radio to the associated UFHO background system in the AMCON cloud. The timetable data in the VDV452 standard are also processed by the tablet and displayed to the driver. The Bluetooth/IBIS adapter developed by ÖPNV-Service, which operates the standardized interface to the vehicle systems and is unique on the market, is used to control the vehicle components.

COST-SAVING ITCS APP FOR ON-DEMAND TRANSPORTATION SERVICESFor countless reasons, fleets sometimes require short-term replacements of vehicles. If vehicles cannot be used to perform their service, for example, because of a defect or an accident, an equivalent replacement vehicle will be needed quickly. However, providing and purchasing reserve vehicles is very expensive, and so many transport companies have cut them back to a minimum. Added to this are the costs for the ITCS components and their installation. If the vehicles additionally have individual hardware configurations tailored to one line only, their possible uses are further limited. AMCON has developed the ITCS Quick & Easy app, which communicates with the Bluetooth box of ÖPNV Service GmbH. It allows the route to be displayed, announcements to be made over the loudspeaker, and the destination sign on the bus to be changed quickly and easily. The individual control of

the vehicle components is thus no longer a problem. The purchase of the Bluetooth box and a tablet or smartphone are not a major cost factor in equipping the vehicles for on-demand or replacement rail traffic. Another advantage of the Android app is that the data can be read via a streamlined web-based background system as a simple Excel export, making the function easy for anyone to understand. This avoids having to purchase additional hardware or software.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALSWHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY ABOUT US

2018

With the new UFHO modules, we can see at a glance what our trains are carrying. This is a big advantage for capacity control. In addition, our new online shop ensures that our customers can conveniently book in advance from our range of tickets the one that best suits their personal journey to Sylt. Dr. Markus Hunkel, CEO RDC Deutschland

Sales opportunities have multiplied in the digitized world. Both private and public trans-port companies are reacting to this, to keep up with the times. With the new webshop module of the UFHO system, ticket sales for passen-gers are easier than ever and can be carried out conveniently on the go or at home. Prices, fare quotas, and payment methods can be adjusted individually.

INDIVIDUAL WEBSHOP DESIGNA webshop opens up new horizons and offers passengers more comfort and choice. The module is adapted to the corporate design of the transport company and integrated into the website, so that the look fits the overall concept.

WEBSHOPNEW DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL WITH INTEGRATED CAPACITY MANAGEMENT

Different ticket types, such as web tickets, combined tickets or discounted rates, can be preset with the webshop module. The public transport companies can determine the ticket prices and quotas in the UFHO background system. In addition, the Capacity Management module allows you to create a sliding scale of how many tickets are to be sold, for what price, and in what time frame. At peak times, where experience has shown that more tickets are sold or the train occupancy is already high, the seller can raise or lower prices for certain periods. The public transport companies can also determine in advance which payment services are available for ticket purchases. When the passenger has completed their purchase, he/she is automatically sent the static authorization (unalterable data record). The public transport companies determine whether ticket purchases are done in the VDV standard or in a closed system. Of course, the inspection infrastructure for the tickets can also be taken over by AMCON.
