PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Friends,

I can hardly believe that it is already the last week of school – the term has flown by! It has certainly been a busy one filled with many happy memories and fantastic school achievements. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the administration, teaching and executive staff, along with our general assistant and cleaning staff for their invaluable contributions and hard work throughout the year and thank the community for their ongoing support of this great school in so many ways. You are all extraordinary!

K-2 ConcertElves, insects, surfers, Hawaiian dancers, angels, kangaroos and even sheep on a beach! What more could you ask for in our K-2 Concert last week? What a visual feast of happy faces, colourful costumes, beautiful backgrounds and catchy tunes. My sincere thanks and congratulations to our amazingly talented K-2 staff, our incredible ‘roadie’ staff who managed the stage, lighting and sound and our fabulous parents who helped out with costuming. I am so proud of what they achieved. Well done, everyone!

Assistant Principal AppointmentLast week we conducted a merit selection panel to employ a new Assistant Principal to Elanora Heights and I am delighted to announce that Mr Jonathan Rosconi was successful in this process and will commence his new position at the beginning of 2017. Mr Rosconi has made a significant contribution to improving the educational outcomes of our students since coming to Elanora and he will be an excellent addition to the Executive Team in 2017. Congratulations Jono.

Present DonationsI would like to thank the community for their very generous support of the gift drive conducted last week. Wiseberry Real Estate have sent us some pictures of the joy which our school helped to create for many families which we will share with you. What a wonderful way to demonstrate to our students the true meaning of giving at Christmas. Thank you, everyone.

School SafetyAs we break for the school holidays it is timely to remind our local community to keep an eye on our school and report any incidents you witness to the police or school safety and security. Please take a moment to read the attached letter from our Local Area Command regarding holiday safety. I thank you in advance for your diligence in protecting our precious school site.

2017 Commence datesI would like to remind our families that school will resume on January 30 next year for grades 1-6. Kindergarten parents should have received their Best Start interview information by now, please contact the office if yours has not arrived.

Final WeekThere are many planned activities for this week, so please make sure to take notice of important dates and times on the information provided in this newsletter. I would like to thank Mrs Laurinda Lomas for her coordination of our beautiful Presentation Day assembly on Monday – what an outstanding job! We had our “Second Assembly” on Tuesday, led by Mrs Vicki Bosler, will have the Movie day on Wednesday for Years 3-5 and the Year 6 Farewell Dance on Thursday evening, followed by their graduation assembly on Friday. Thank you to the very hard working and exhausted Year 6 team, Mrs Cynthia Pitt, Mr Scott Reid and Miss Charlotte Reddan, who have just returned from accompanying our Year 6 students to camp last week. A wonderful time was had by all and our students were very well behaved during their time away.

It will be with mixed feelings that we farewell our Year 6 students on Friday – sadness that they are leaving us, mixed with excitement for them as they begin the next chapter of their lives. We know that they are leaving Elanora with a solid education behind them which will provide a strong foundation for their future learning. We wish them much happiness and success in their future endeavours at high school. Until Next time,

S... EXTRAORDINARY WRITING

I had the pleasure last week of reading these imaginative and well-written poems by

Marcus D and Max M in 3S. Great work boys!

Crock Attack

From the morning I woke up,

I was sitting on the floor

I looked what was around me,

And headed for the door.

Some crocks I could see,

But it cannot be!

There on the bed-

With a socks on their HEADS!

I am racing,

They are chasing-

I can’t look back,

Or they will attack.

They start to roar,

But I lock the door!

I think to myself I did not lose,

I fled to the bed and had a snooze!!!

Marcus D

An Awfully Cow Adventure

Crum, Crum, the pipers hum,

Stole a cow and away did run,

But on the way he hungry got,

He bit that cow upon its bot!

The cow struck back, and sharply bit

Crum on the place he’s known to sit!

Crum dropped the cow and rubbed his rear,

The bite was fierce, Crum shed a tear.

(But to this day he’ll never stray,

Along the street where beef could play!)

... Annual Christmas Gift Appeal..|..MRS BOSLER, MISS KENGIKE & the SRC MEMBERS

An EMAIL from Carly at WISEBERRY REAL ESTATE I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all the children at Elanora Heights Public School!

What an amazing response we had and the gifts will brighten so many lives at Stewart House, Bear Cottage and Mona Vale Hospital.

I am sending the photo to the Manly Daily today so hopefully we’ll get some editorial for this again this year!

Thank you for all your help with organising this.

... Annual Christmas Gift Appeal..|..MRS BOSLER, MISS KENGIKE & the SRC MEMBERS

The Annual Wiseberry Real Estate and SRC Christmas Gift Appeal for 2016 was a resounding success thanks to the generosity of the Elanora Heights School Community!

On behalf of the Student Representative Council, we’d like to sincerely thank you all for getting behind this initiative again for the 3rd consecutive year and wholeheartedly supporting our efforts.

We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the school community, as were the representatives from Wiseberry Real Estate. The station wagons and other cars were full to the brim with gifts including the Stewart House van.

We have done something very worthwhile in keeping with the spirit of Christmas - giving and thinking of others less fortunate than ourselves. We’re sure our efforts will bring a great deal of joy to the students of Stewart House, children residing at Bear Cottage and children who will spend Christmas Day at Mona Vale Hospital.

The Student Representative Council did a wonderful job encouraging their peers to bring in gifts and overseeing the collection of gifts in their classrooms.

We’d like to thank all teaching and office staff for supporting this event and for managing to move around the overflowing boxes of gifts in their classrooms and the Admin area without injury!

Christmas Gift Mufti DayOn the day of the Christmas Gift collection, the playground was a sea of Christmassy colours and crazy, colourful hairstyles as the students embraced the theme for this Mufti Day. It was a wonderful culmination to our Christmas Gift Appeal. We’d also like to thank those staff members who joined the students in donning Christmas mufti colours and helping to make it a special, festive day for all.

..... We wish everyone well over the coming break and hopefully we will all find time in amongst

the ‘busyness’ to spend a little bit more time than usual with those that matter.

This week we farewell our Year 6 students and others who are off to other schools. We should recognise how important Primary school is at this stage of children’s lives. They are finishing off a very significant chapter and there are exciting times to come. Their experiences from Primary School will, in part, influence how they tackle these new adventures. I suppose that’s why I think one of the P&C’s roles is to try hard to provide them rich and diverse experiences that are outside and in addition to the standard State curriculum.

Next year ushers in a new year of Kindy and all the fresh faces that comes with that. We all remember that transition into ‘Big School’ and we look forward to welcoming those children and parents to the school community. Also beginning next year will be two new initiatives under the stewardship of Anna Davis and Mandy Barker, languages and art classes. Numbers are already being filled so if you think your child could benefit make the appropriate enquiries. Our P&C email address is: [email protected]

One of the first and most exciting events on the calendar will be during the second week back, the P&C Meeting, February 8, 2017. Everyone is welcome and at this meeting one of the hot topics will be what to spend money on, which will in turn give us an idea of how much we will need to raise during the school year.

If you haven’t already had a look at the school’s website calendar (http://www.elanorahts-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/calendar ) that has already been populated with all of first term’s events please take a moment to do so and we will see (most) of you again then. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

FREEZERS FOR SALEAs the canteen now have new freezers the P&C are selling two of their old freezers. Below are photos of the freezers. If you are interested in purchasing either of these please contact Erku on 0490 337 051.

This year has brought about a lot of changes at the canteen. We have focused on getting our menu in-line with the Government guidelines, by eliminating ‘red-light’ or banned food items and by increasing the number of ‘green-light’ food items. Our team was so grateful to have received such a positive response from you – our parents and students. You have supported our initiatives such as free fruit tokens, recess boxes and teacher-named sandwiches. With your help, we have also been able to create a fun vibe around the canteen with competitions such as name the canteen, name our chicken and our fruit and veg loyalty cards. As a result, the canteen has made a healthy profit, which will be put back into the school to benefit our children.
