Community Lenten Service Schedule At The Crossroads ~ Community Wednesday Worship Series for Lent – 2017
Many of those involved in the story of the Passion of Christ came to a crossroads and had to decide which way to go. Some chose well, some did not. The stories of these experienc-es at various crossroads help us to know what to do when we encounter similar situations in our own lives. We hear how Christ and his cross lead us to follow the path of God’s will.

The month of February is filled with opportunities to renew our lives in these wintery months. On February 5 we welcome once again the Scouts. They will be par-ticipating in the service together with Pastor Janet. Also during the month there will be special music at a number of the services and at the end of the month the youth will be participat-ing through Youth Leadership. In February we recognize out-going and in-coming Council members and will have the Installation of the new councils for Melo and Our Savior’s. We thank these leaders for their part in the ministry of Jesus Christ. Youth continue their efforts as they plan for the mission trip in June. They will also have a Field trip/Service Project on February 15 to the Good Sam nursing home. Meet at the church at 3:30 pm. Confir-mation students especially take note. A new special music group is devel-oping. A youth choir began practice on Sunday, Jan 29 at 10 am in the Sanctuary. Contact Katie Benson or Karen Poverud for details. Lent begins soon. Ash Wednesday is March 1 and an Ash Wednesday Ser-vice will be held at OSL at 7:00 pm. Please see the Lenten Schedule which is included in the bulletin. These ministry events and so much more are taking place in the congre-gations. Stay safe. Stay warm. Remember Spring is just around the corner. Your Friend and Pastor,
Pastor Janet Warnes
REFLECTIVE THOUGHTS:
**Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives. *God loves us with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:3. *As a loving parent God is right there with us through the mile-
stones and the mundane. You will see Him if you look, His arms out-stretched and His face looking into yours. Take every opportunity to look to Him and fall into those arms. *No one can match the love God has for you. *Lord, thank you for choosing me to follow you.

spires youth to become Active Believ-

A presentation was given on January 22 and another presentation will be given soon. THIS AND THAT ** A big Thank-You goes out to all
who helped remove and store the
Christmas decorations at OSL: Carol
Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Bob & Shelly Conely, Tim & Linda Conely, Willis & Janice Grochow, William Kohl-hase, Mary Laymon, Gladwin Lynne.
** OSL/Melo Choir Members, please
note, the Choir has been asked to sing
at Melo's 125th Anniversary. This will take place during the church service on Sunday, June 25 at 9:30 am. Please make plans to be available to take part in this special service.
** PARISH NEWS: Former OSL/Melo
intern Reverend Dr. Clayton Schmit
was the Provost at the Southern Theo-
logical Seminary at Raleigh, NC for the
past couple of years. Recently, he took
a call as Sr. Pastor of Trinity Lutheran
Church in Stevens Point, Wiscon-
sin. This is a wonderful, large and
thriving congregation in Central WI. It
is near his and wife, Carol's lake home,
and near his mother in Tomahawk,
WI. His installation will take place on
Feb 12, 2017.
The ladies who quilt seemed to be anxious to meet again on the
10th of January. It was a cold, blustery day but everyone came. The
wind died down by the time we closed shop. If or when you read the
annual report, you will see that we accomplished much in 2016. We
all are a year older, but they don’t slow down—they are a fantastic
group of ladies. We do miss our snowbirds because each filled a much-
needed job in the group. When they are gone, someone else steps up!
So grateful.
We are taking on a new project that we are excited about. We
applied for and received a grant of $250 from Thrivent. We decided to
give to the Mission as this is new to us. We have until early March to
complete our mission. Northlands Rescue Mission has told us their most
urgent needs are for warm head gear (stocking caps, etc.), mittens,
men’s socks and as always, personal care items. We will also send
quilts. We are also encouraged to ask our congregations to contribute
if they so desire. You could even check to see if you have hats, gloves
or mittens that are no longer needed. We will be happy to receive
whatever you may find. Thanking all for the generous contributions
already given, as well! Mission Action

You know how to tell your doctor where it hurts. You can tell your dentist about your toothache. So why can it be so hard to talk finances with your financial professional? A meeting with financial professionals can admittedly be a source of stress for some. Managing money can seem intimi-dating, is sometimes confusing and is always very personal. While they’re easy to avoid, missing financial meetings can bring similar issues as skipping a dentist or doctor visit. These meetings provide an important financial check-up for you to ensure your strategy is still on track and can help make sure your family and finances are protected. Like going to the doctor or den-tist, it is important that you come pre-pared to ask the right questions. Thrivent Financial suggests you ask these ques-tions when you’re meeting with your fi-nancial professional. Is my coverage adequate? Ensuring proper protection against death, disability or injury is one of the most im-portant things you can do for your family. Talk to your financial professional about cost concerns, protection options and how you can make sure that your family will be covered financially in the event of an untimely death, or disability. If you’ve had major life changes like the birth or adoption of a child, bought a house or got married- chances are your protection will need updating. What are some creative ways we can refine my strategy to help maximize benefits? This is the area that a financial profes-
sional can really help you. They can help you organize your financial strategy in a way that factors in things like taxes and market volatility, and they will know what changes are on the horizon that could af-fect you. They can also help you use sta-ple financial products in unique ways. These are applications many average folks don’t know about but can offer different advantages to your financial strategy. How are my financial strategies aligning with my values? Having a financial strategy which allows you to align your finances with your values is another important topic to bring up. If you have charitable causes you want to sup-port, or volunteer trips you want to take, make sure your financial professional knows about them and he/she can help you develop ways to bring your generosity to life. Tell me about the strength and stability of your company or organization. Insurance is only as strong as the ability of your financial institution to pay out claims when you need to claim a contract. Make sure to investigate the strength and stability of any company you’re working with to en-sure it is financially sound enough to make good on its obligations. What should I do differently in the next year? This seems like an easy question, but you’d be amazed how few people ask it. Your financial professional is often in a unique position to help you stay ahead of the curve when it comes to your future strategy needs. Making sure you’re diversi-fied in the market and ensuring your future
protection needs are just two of the many variables to consider. Yearly meetings with a financial professional can help you hone your financial strate-gies for the upcoming year and help keep them as healthy as possible. Your time is valuable; and your fi-nancial future is even more valuable to you and your family. Make sure you’re maximizing both and ensure you get the most out of meeting with your financial professional.
CONGRATULATIONS!

1If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cym-
bal. 2And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to
remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body
so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant
5or rude. It does not insist on its own
way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6
it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7It bears all things, be-
lieves all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end;
as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9For we know only in part, and we prophesy
only in part; 10but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11When I was a child, I spoke like a child,
I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12
For now we see
in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been
fully known. 13
And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
And the greatest of these is Love…
