It was really nice to be a part of the church supper for this spring. I was especially impressed when I
came downstairs Wednesday morning and saw how much work had been done to make the tables look so
nice. I know that hosting an event like this is a lot of work thank you so much for those who prepared both the
food and the set up. Thank you so much for those who served during the event. You made our guests feel
welcome with great hospitality, and finally, thank you to you who cleaned up. Some of you were even
involved in more than one of those tasks! Thank you so much.
Pleasant surprises for me included. 1) I was amazed by the number of people who ordered “take out”
meals. 2) I was surprised that his was a “free will offering event.” Although I wasn’t by any means watching
what people were putting in the basket I couldn’t help but notice, as I went through the line, an abundance of
$20 bills. I’m sure some saw this meal as a way to have a good meal for a, “good deal,” while many others
saw the gift they gave as an opportunity to express thanks and generosity. Either way all are welcomed and
encouraged to enjoy the food and fellowship. It was a good evening.
Many of you saw the picture of my missing dog and have asked, “Have you found him?” Well, here’s
the story. He dug his way out of the fenced in area of the back yard of the parsonage a week ago Tuesday. At
the dinner on Wednesday (8 days later) I was told that the TRF radio station had announced a found dog in
Red Lake Falls. So I called them...it wasn’t my dog. But they said they would put information about mine
over the air and I gave the description. A couple of hours later I got a call. Someone near TRF had my
dog. When I came to pick him up I found a home that was about as close to dog heaven as one could
expect. A family with kids, out in the country, space to run, and when I came to the door my dog got off the
couch to greet me. (I would never let him on the couch!) His new family had even taken him to town for a
“dog shampoo,” so he was looking really good! What could I do, the family had already “adopted,” him, and
he sure seemed to like his new home. When he was with me he wanted to go everywhere with me but that
meant he spent a lot of time in the travel kennel I had in the back seat of the car, and the kids that grew up with
him are no longer at home... Well, by now you’ve probably guessed it, they were delighted that I would be
willing to hand him over. I do miss him...but what can you say...He’s now got a better home than I could
give. Thank you, all of you who asked around and kept your eyes open. I appreciate your help and your
questions. I am incredibly relieved that he didn’t die of exposure..or by a car on the road. He’s a 12 yr old
dog, this is a pretty good retirement home.
As I write this I am looking forward to the first event in our interim process this Sunday after
worship. This event seeks to increase our awareness of who we are as a ministry of God based on where we
have come from, that is our history. I like that word. You break it down and it says, “His - Story.” So we’re
going to hear stories of God’s work here in this place. God’s work in this church, God’s work through your
hands and minds and imaginations. Stories that are in your memory banks. It should be fun.
As the snow gives way to green grass I look forward to new activities. I think I’ll even try out your
golf course!
We’ll see you in church. God bless you. Pastor Phil

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church WELCA Secretary’s Minutes
The Executive Board of Our Saviors Lutheran WELCA met Wednesday, March 13, 2012 at 5:00pm. The follow-
ing board members were present: Deb Schmidt, Virlynn Hanson, Kay Anderson and Elva Bustrack.
Deb Schmidt, President, called the meeting to order.
The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were presented. There were no corrections or additions except that our
meeting time tonight was changed due to Lenten Services. There was a motion made by Elva Bustrack and seconded by
Kay Anderson to accept the reports and put on file with a change for the June meeting moved to the 5 th at 4:30 due to con-
flicts. Motion carried.
Correspondence: There was a thank you read for the donations made in December from each of the following:
Warren Senior Meals, Northland Rescue Mission, Good Samaritan Center, NDSU-Lutheran Center, Concordia College,
BSU-Lutheran Center, UND Christus Rex Center and LAMP.
Old Business:
Board Positions is a work in progress. If anyone knows of anyone interested in serving on the board please let Deb
Schmidt know.
Work Groups for the 2013 Yellow pages were put into 3 groups instead of 4. All these changes have been given to
the church secretary, Shannon.
New Business:
Look over the yellow pages when they come out and note any changes that need to be made.
Tablecloths for downstairs were purchased by Carol Anderson and Virlynn Hanson. Carol Anderson has taken
them home and pressed them all. Elva Bustrack has ordered a tablecloth for the coffee table upstairs.
There was discussion about the expectations for clean up after a group uses the basement facilities. It was felt that
a lot of this could be settled with the council having specific job descriptions for staff.
Deb Schmidt and Carol Anderson are meeting on the Spring Supper tonight.
Scholarship forms for the Northwestern Minnesota Synodical Women’s Organization were received and Virlynn
Hanson will give these to Shannon in the office to be sent out to eligible seniors attending a college of the ELCA.
There was discussion on providing a quilt for each graduate. Quilters are not able to do this and WELCA Board
decided the graduation gift should be left up to the Education Committee as it has always been in the past.
Virlynn Hanson was instructed to send off any Cluster fees and offering when noticed received due to we only meet
once a quarter.
The next WELCA Board meeting will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 4:30 pm in the church lounge.
The meeting was adjourned

I expressed my appreciation to one of the singers of the choir on Easter Sunday.
The response was… “Oh-we were such a small group, but we did the best we
could.”
I wanted to almost shout - you were wonderful. You made joyful music unto our
Lord and remember, “where 2 or 3 are gathered in my name, there I am also.”
I was very much moved by your singing. God-bless all “small” groups!

Mission Action
We know the arrival (or not) of Spring is on everyone’s mind. There are other things that should not be
neglected. We were asked to cover up our storage area on the stage in the fellowship hall for up coming
events.
Our first question was how to hang them? Ron Leverington was contacted and asked to figure out a way
to make it happen. Ron came thru very quickly and a very nice and clever “deal” was made, painted, and
installed!
Next, Alice Swanson and Arlys Trudell were asked for help with getting the curtains or drapes made. All
one has to do is ask - and these ladies are on the job immediately. A huge Thank You to all 3 of these very
talented people who make things happen that enhance our church home. You are so appreciated!
Our shipping date for Lutheran World Relief is May 4th. Same place - same time as in the past. We have
been a small group most of the winter (wonderland?) season. Any extra help these last few weeks would be
very much appreciated. Check us out on Tuesday afternoons from 1-4 in the lower level of OSL.
We’d love to see you!

'Do not ask the Lord to Guide your Footsteps if you are not willing to move your Feet' Even though you can't see him, GOD is there for you! When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you!
I thought this was pretty special, just like YOU!!!
The 2013 LCW Spring Supper is history! It takes many hands to produce a meal for 271 people. This
event wouldn’t happen without all of the willing donors and workers. Maybe you peeled potatoes, rolled
meatballs, baked a cake, served, washed/wiped dishes, set the tables, bussed tables, came for dinner or a
takeout, ran to Dales for more food, delivered meals, carried out garbage, and the list goes on and on.
We are most appreciative of EVERYONE who assisted in any large or small way to make this big event
happen. It was great that spouses came to help both nights too! Special thanks to Mick’s of Warren,
and A&L Potatoes of East Grand Forks for the donations of coleslaw, ice, pickles, and potatoes.
Mark your calendars for April 23, 2014!
