OUR NEW SCHOOL LEADERS Last week our candidates for 2017 delivered their
speeches to the whole school outlining what
‘Leadership’ meant to them and discussing a leader
from history that upholds their ideals..
I congratulate all nine candidates: Stephanie Baart,
Georgia Calub, Karlee Funnell, Kailen Graham, Elllie
Hamer, Adelle Hutchings, Jack Standing, Jett
Townsend and Holly Uhr on their outstanding speeches.
They certainly made the job of voting very difficult, as
each and every one of them would make outstanding
School Captains
However, there can only be 4 leaders and following the
voting process I am proud to announce our 2017 School
Leadership team is
Captains
Karlee Funnell
Jett Townsend
Vice Captains
Holly Uhr
Kailen Graham
Congratulations and I look forward to working with you.

YEAR 12 FINAL DAYS After 13 years of school the countdown is on in earnest.
The remaining time for our HSC students will be a
balance of polishing for the upcoming exams and
celebrating the achievement of having successfully
completed the courses.
Students will be given a letter that will include all
arrangements for the remaining three weeks. During
this time we have many formal and informal
celebrations planned and I urge students to enjoy
themselves responsibly and celebrate in a manner that
brings credit to themselves and Blayney High School.
FACEBOOK As many have already discovered our Facebook page
was launched last Wednesday. If you haven’t seen it
yet check it out and let us know what you think. In
addition to keeping everyone informed about what is
happening in the school we believe demonstrating good
Digital Citizenship is a key aim for our page. As such
please note the ‘Community Social Media Guidelines’
posted on the page and feel free to comment.
The Facebook page is there for us all to enjoy and
celebrate everything that if wonderful about our school.

CONGRATULATIONS ZACK Zack Farr recently spent the week competing at the
NSW Combined High Schools (NSWCHS) Lawn Bowls
Championships in Newcastle. Zack was part of an 8
person Western squad which was managed by Orange
High School teacher Ben Callaway. The Western side
competed against teams from the North Coast, North
West, Riverina, South Coast, the Hunter and 5 Sydney
teams.
Western came first overall in their pool, but then went
down in the first semi, which then put them out of
contention for Gold and Silver. The best they could
hope for now was either Bronze or 4th
place. On the
last day of play after a nail biting game against Sydney
South West, the Western team eventually came away a
few shots ahead to take out the Bronze position, the
regions best result in many years.

WOOL EXPO It was a brisk Thursday morning in Blayney and a group
of ordinary Blayney High students and the wonderful
Madi and Trisha travelled to Canowindra listening to Mr
Jones’s (Narrabri Open Show Jumping Champion)
exhilarating and adventurous stories full of drama and
good times whilst Mr Giddings’s captained the Magic
School Bus (which was actually the hospital bus).
Once finally arriving after an emotionally draining trip
listening to Mr Jones blabber on about his action
packed life and his strong opinion on Bio-dynamic
Agriculture, we went inside a shed and were warmly
welcomed by Mike Pora and a very much missed
former Blayney High Teacher Ms Dunford #megzy.
To begin with, we watched a shearing and wool
handling demonstration by a right handed and left
handed shearer. One of these shearers has world
titles, being the best in the world in 2005. From there,
we went and watched Phil Balcombe scan pregnant
ewes, to determine if they were actually in lamb and
how many lambs there are.
We then went to a competition where we were put to
the test to determine which fleece was used to create
what garments, after feeling the garments and fleeces
we then wrote our answers on the sheet, we then
placed our answers into a box and waiting for the
results.

Hecton is a New Zealand owned and made company,
making sheep yards, crushes and cradles that make
working with sheep easier. We were given a
demonstration on how numerous products worked.
Mr Jones’s favourite Hecton product was this…
It’s a very simple product designed to hold up a ewe
with a calcium deficiency and unable to stand by itself,
this is usually because of having more than one lamb. It
has cut outs for the four legs and udder. They stay in
this product until they are strong enough to get
themselves out of it.
The last place we went was to the wool stalls – Bryton
Wool Brokers.
There, we had a guided tour of where the wool is
stored, sorted and processed. We were also fortunate
enough to view the wool testing, where an expected
400 bales were to be done in that one day. The testing
involves taking a sample from the bale and sending it
away to have it classified, these classifications gives us
an almost immediate reading of the characteristics of
the wool, microns etc.

TOM KEMP HOCKEY On Friday 26th August the under 16’s girls hockey
team travelled to Bathurst to play three games of
hockey against Kelso, Mudgee and Wellington. The
girls fought hard for wins in all three games and were
very successful with wins of 2-0 against Kelso, 5-0
against Mudgee and 8-0 Wellington with the good
attack of Tiffany Davis, Abbie Uhr, Tegan Lymbery
and Emily Anderson along with the very aggressive
midfield of Monique Allan, Samantha Hartwell, Paige
Selten, Kimberley Anderson, Amber Forster and
Summer Davis. We also has a very aggressive attack
of Allira Simmons and Tayla Hoadley. With the goalie
Ainsley Hamson only touching the ball once because
of this great defensive line.
