Thoughts From Fr. Tom, This weekend we focus on new beginnings. We begin a new Church year and we begin the season of Advent. The new Church year invites us into another year of grace, filled with opportunities to deepen our rela-tionship with Christ. The season of Advent is described as a time of preparation and joyful expectation. As the Gospel for today reminds us, we are to stay awake and be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. Advent calls us to prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth of Christ once again, but to also be pre-pared for his glorious return in the future. This time of preparation is best lived out by immersing ourselves in prayer and reflection and being attentive to the ways Christ is revealed to us in our daily lives. How can we make this season of Advent a time of new beginnings? Please be sure to join us for prayer and faith enrich-ment during the season of Advent. On Wednesday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. we will gather for an Advent Evening of Reflection. Our guest presenter will be Bishop Johnston. He will be speaking on a theme relat-ed to our Advent journey. We are very pleased that he is coming to our parish, so please make plans to attend. There will be a light reception following his presentation. Our parish Advent Reconciliation Service will be Sunday, December 11, at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent in preparation for Christmas. There will be several priests present for individual confession. If it has been awhile since you have celebrated the sacrament, make this the year you commit to participate. Our parish service project during Advent is the Giving Tree. Please be sure to take a tag or two from the Giving Tree located in the Mulligan Room and pur-chase the designated gift. You will help bring a little joy to children and adults in need. Throughout the season of Advent, you are also invit-ed to use the Little Blue Book of Prayer for Advent as a daily prayer resource. This is one of the ways we connect as a faith community and grow in our faith. Please check the bulletin regularly for all that is happen-ing during Advent and make note of the Christmas Mass schedule. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are on a Saturday/Sunday this year. There will be a special sched-ule of Masses that weekend. We are so grateful to everyone who purchased shoes or donated money for the Heart & Sole shoe drive last weekend. We had a very generous response. Through your spirit of giving, many children in need will be receiving a new pair of shoes. Thank you for your willingness to make service to others an important part of our Stewardship Renewal and our parish identity. If you have not yet returned your Stewardship Commitment cards, please do so in the near future. Many Blessings!

Thankfulness, Focus on Service: In November, OLP staff, students and school families are focused on service by par cipa ng in the annual OLP Turkey Trot 5K and Student Council Sack Mass. The Turkey Trot is a huge community event which benefits OLP’s Literacy Programs, Lee’s Summit Social Services, and Opera on Breakthrough. The Sack Mass is a need-based drive for food and supplies, which are donated to Lee’s Summit Social Services. Both of these events bring in an incredible amount of support for worthy organiza ons. This year, as OLP strives to make its service programs more meaningful, students also par cipated in a Sock Drive for the benefit of Blair’s Foster Socks. As a community, OLP School is thankful for the opportunity to help those who are less fortunate. As leaders, OLP staff is thankful for the support and generosity of school families! Many Blessings to all for a beau ful Thanksgiving holiday!
Another memorable 2 days of Thanksgiving Feasts at OLP ECC. We are blessed to have so many wonderful families and to be part of such a great parish community!
