An embarrassment of riches? Not if we take Jesus' words about "welcome" to heart. The many challenges and blessings offered to us today by Elisha, Paul and Jesus should be cause for rejoicing, and welcomed heartily into our lives. And, like the great treat that they are, they should be enjoyed and shared generously with others. Today's reading from Romans was chosen very early in the liturgical life of the Church to be the sole ap- ostolic instruction received by candidates for baptism at the Easter Vigil. This illustrates its importance as a core belief, and as a means of comprehending the story of the Resurrection. Christ's resurrection is not merely a story about something that he underwent once upon a time, but it is our story, the story of how we joined the other members of the one Body of Christ, the Church. We were not only dead, but we were buried; not ultimately buried, but raised to eternal life with Christ.

THE RICHNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST Today we have the beautiful story of the woman promised a child, the wonderful exhortation about life in Christ, and a powerful instruction from Jesus. Today's reading from Romans was chosen very early in the liturgical life of the Church to be the sole ap-ostolic instruction received by candidates for baptism at the Easter Vigil.

WELCOME, FATHER JOSE CORRAL Archbishop Cordileone is delighted to appoint Fa-ther Jose Corral as the next Pastor of Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, with our mission churches of St. Anthony’s and Our Lady of Refuge. The Archbishop will officially install Fr. Corral as Pastor at the 10:00 AM Mass on July 23. Father Corral is originally from Guanajuato, Mexico. He has been ordained a priest for 37 years and has been serving for the past three years as the Pastor of St. James Church in San Francisco. St. James is the Apostle who received the apparition of Our La-dy of the Pillar, thus providing a beautiful Providen-tial link in the story of Father Corral’s journey to Half Moon Bay. Father Corral speaks fluently in English, Spanish, Italian, French and German and he spent some years studying Sacred Scripture in Rome before be-coming a part of the Presbyterate of the Archdio-cese of San Francisco. He is deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother and is very active in the Charismatic Renewal. Let us pray for our new Pastor. May the Virgin of the Pillar, who has been the loving Mother of the Coastside for almost 150 years, protect and enlight-en Father Corral, leading him into wisdom and right judgment, so that he may sanctify, teach and gov-ern fruitfully the flock of our parish for years to come! BIENVENIDO!

St. Patrick’s Seminary Gala Dinner and Raffle 2017 Saturday, September 9, 5:00 pm St. Patrick’s Seminary, 320 Middlefield Rd., Menlo Park Advancement Office 650-289-3320 [email protected] stpsu.edu/2017-stpsu-gala The major and only annual fundraiser for St. Patrick’s Seminary and University is Saturday, September 9. Founded in 2005, the Walk is now the second largest pro-life event in the country, and the in-flux of young Catholics it generates each January makes it one of the most inspiring moments of the year in the archdiocese. Again this year, a highlight of the Gala evening is the Grand Raffle Prize of a new Lexus IS 200T (or $25,000). A limited number of raffle tickets is available at $50; and you need not be present to win. To buy raffle tickets in advance, phone or e-mail the Ad-vancement Office, above. Obituary Announcements

“Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. ‘Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.’” Our Lady of the Pillar parish would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of: Angela Marcheschi, Gene Pardini, John Dooley, Juan Zamora, Kennerth A. Gaugler and Zamora Moon Lusindi. Wishing you strength for today and hope for tomorrow. Please remember them in your prayers.
