Sixth Sunday of Easter Reflection
DESPERATELY NEEDING THE SPIRIT?
“Do not be distressed or fearful.” —John 14:27
When Jesus told His disciples not to be dis-tressed, they didn’t realize they would soon be very distressed. Likewise, when Jesus tells us not to be distressed in today’s Gospel reading, we may not realize that this is to be taken personally and immediately. We think that this message is not specifically for us and is generally intended for everybody. Moreover, we may think that things are going well in our lives, and therefore we don’t expect any immediate distress. How-ever, the disciples were wrong, and we might be mistaken as well. They were on the threshold of the most distressful time of their lives. Although we may not know it, we may desperately need the Holy Spirit’s help (see Jn 14:26).
Assume that two weeks from today you will need to receive a new Pentecost, or else be over-whelmed by distress. Whether or not this hap-pens, the wisest thing is to be ready for anything by being filled with the Holy Spirit. May you desire a new Pentecost more than you want any-thing else. Jesus has promised: “This much have I told you while I was still with you; the Para-clete, the Holy Spirit Whom the Father will send in My name, will instruct you in everything, and remind you of all that I told you” (Jn 14:25-26). Come, Holy Spirit!

Sexto Domingo de Pascua Reflexion
¿NECESITAS AL ESPÍRITU SANTO CON
DESESPERO?
“¡No se desesperen ni teman!” –Juan 14:27
Cuando Jesús les dijo a los discípulos que no desesperaran, no se daban cuenta que pronto se sentirían desesperados. De la misma manera, cuando en el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos dice que no nos desesperemos, no pensamos que este mensaje está específicamente dirigido a nosotros de una forma personal e inmediata. Nosotros pensamos que este mensaje no es para nosotros y que está dirigido a la congregación en general. Tal vez, creemos que todo nos va bien, por lo que no esperamos tener una situación estresante. Sin embargo, igual que los Discípulos estaban equivocados y a lo mejor también lo estamos no-sotros. Ellos estaban a punto de experimentar los momentos más difíciles de sus vidas. Aunque nosotros no lo esperamos, probablemente ten-dremos la necesidad de recurrir a la ayuda del
Espíritu Santo (Cfr. Jn 14, 26).
Imagina que en dos semanas necesitarás pedir un nuevo Pentecostés; cuando tengas que en-frentar una situación desesperante. Aunque esto pueda o no pasar, lo prudente es estar preparados llenándose del Espíritu Santo. Deseen un Nuevo Pentecostés más que cualquier otra cosa. Jesús ha prometido “Yo les digo estas cosas mientras permanezco con ustedes. Pero el Paráclito, el Es-píritu Santo que el Padre enviará en mi Nombre, les enseñara todo y les hará recordar lo que yo les he dicho, (Jn 14,25-26). ¡Ven Espíritu Santo!
