TAKING COMMUNION TO HOSPITAL, CARE FACILITY & HOMEBOUND

There is no privilege greater than giving or receiving the healing power of Christ in Holy Eucharist, especially to those who are suffering. Pastoral ministers are available to bring Holy Communion to you or your loved ones when unable to attend Mass due to illness or age.

However, due to privacy laws, we will not know the whereabouts of our parishioners in need, unless we are told. Do not hesitate to contact Laura at the parish office at 608-362-9066 ext. 114.

Family members and close friends are encouraged to undertake this ministry, after a short explanation of the procedure from the Pastoral Staff.

ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 17, 2018

From Our Pastor…

Today’s Scripture is from Mk 4:26, 28-29

"This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land? Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come."

Blessings on Fathers Day!

Greetings as we gather on this Father’s Day weekend. Blessings on all Father’s as they strive to share their example of love and faith. May we, their daughters and sons honor them with a spirit of profound respect. As well, eternal Rest on all of our Fathers who have died in the peace of Christ.

Have a peaceful and joy filled day!

Fr. Mike

Upcoming Summer Projects for OLA Campus

Along with the regular maintenance of our beautiful campus, the following three major projects will be happening in the months ahead:

· Painting trim & replacing some of the soffits/fascia's at the Child Care Building along with the installation of a new roof.

· New asphalt paving of the south parking lot behind school and the west driveway between Child Care and the cemetery.

· Adding more security updates for OLA campus buildings and parking areas.

Deepening Our Faith

It is Ordinary Time and in our readings we are connecting to the ordinary lives of people, especially in the parables of Jesus.

This week, we read the parable of the “mustard seed.” Folks, mustard seed is basically a weed! (These parables are all before the invention of Round-up.) I’ve said it before: taken literally, Jesus isn’t such a great farmer. But the parables are genius! He tells of farmers sowing on poor soil and amongst thorns, and no farmer I know would be happy about attracting birds to the grain field and certainly not with the wild mustard that can invade and smother out crops.

The peasant farmers of Galilee would be chuckling amongst themselves because they know the parable isn’t really about farming. They know, and we also should realize the message is about turning things upside down. Parables are always about giving things a little twist. The passage in the first reading sums it up well: “the lowly will be lifted high and the mighty brought low.” This is certainly a core theme throughout Scripture and God’s plan for his kingdom. This is absolutely “Good News” for the lowly peasant farmers of Galilee. It is a reminder for all of us that if we really want to know where to find God at work we need to recognize those oppressed, marginalized, and brought low. As disciples, we will be in solidarity and serving those being smothered by the weeds of life, and then we, too, will be lifted up.

We pray for those who have died recently:

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) Our thanks to all who made our annual VBS week “Discovering Jesus Around the World; Missionary Disciples” a great time.

This year we explored faith in Mexico, Philippines, Nigeria, Vietnam, and Ireland and learned customs and prayers in different languages. Most of all we learned that while our surroundings, food, customs and speech may be different, we all share the same love from God and the mission to live our faith and serve one another. Next week I’ll have more highlights about VBS.

MEN’S FAITH SHARING

The Men’s Faith Sharing Group will meet this Monday, May 18, at 6:30 PM at the Administration Center. We discuss the intersection and integration of faith to our daily work and lives. The support, insight, and wisdom gained from our lively discussions and one another is priceless and it is all free! All men are welcome! For more info contact Rob in the Faith Formation office at 608-362-1231 or [email protected]

Do you play piano or know someone who plays?

We are looking for a substitute piano player, primarily for the 8:00 Sunday Mass, when our regular pianist is not able to play. This person will need to be a bit above average and capable of playing loud enough to support the congregation in sung prayer. For more information contact Randy at the Admin. Center, 608-362-9066.

Altar Servers Picnic

There will be a picnic for all Altar Servers and their families this Wednesday, June 20, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Preservation Park. Cost is $2.00 per person and includes gr illed meats, chips, drinks, games and pontoon boat rides for those interested. Please RSVP to Randy by noon on Tuesday.

REMINDER

Please do not leave valuables in your cars. A while back, a purse was stolen from an unlocked car at OLA. Don’t ever assume it won’t happen in a church parking lot.

Health Ministry Reminders:

· There is no need to stand during Mass if you are weak or dizzy.

· Wheelchair and electronic blood pressure monitor are available in the usher’s closet.

· It is advisable to please stay home if you are sick.

· Food with medicine may be taken before Mass and Communion.
