La Temporada de Cuaresma Hoy es el primer domingo de la temporada cuaresmal. Como sabemos, esta temporada siempre empieza con el Miércoles de Ceniza que celebramos el 6 de marzo. P. John Roche, SSCC, se refiere al Miércoles de Ceniza como “"el día más honesto del año porque literalmente nos golpea, directamente en la cara (por así decirlo), con una cruda realidad: ¡todo el material será un día, incluso nosotros mismos!" Así que con la Cuaresma, entramos en un nuevo modo de ser, que se refleja en la naturaleza como las orugas que se convierten en mariposas. El prefacio de la misa de Réquiem nos recuerda que cuando morimos, "la vida cambia, no se termina". En la siguiente etapa de nuestro ser, lo único que llevamos con nosotros es nuestra relación, con Dios y con los demás. La Iglesia nos da esta temporada de Cuaresma para reflexionar sobre esto y cómo el sacrificio del Señor nos trae a una nueva vida. Reflexionar sobre esta realidad es embarcarse en la espiritualidad de la Cuaresma. Podemos observar mecánicamente la Cuaresma renunciando al chocolate o similar, pero eso es realmente solo la superficie. Profundizar en la Cuaresma es reflexionar sobre las realidades últimas de la vida, las preguntas perennes de los humanos: quién soy yo, cuál es el propósito de la vida … La Cuaresma es mucho más que negarnos algo durante cuarenta días. Se trata de unirnos con Dios a través de Jesús; aprender a ser obedientes a la voluntad del Padre y hacer que la voluntad del Padre sea lo más central en nuestra vida. Para hacer eso
tenemos que vencer muchas tentaciones. Y tenemos las prácticas de oración, ayuno y abstinencia, y dar limosna para ayudarnos a hacer eso.
The Lenten Season Today is the first Sunday of the Lent. As we know, the Lenten season begins with Ash Wednesday that we celebrated last March 6. Fr. John Roche, SSCC, refers to Ash Wednesday as “the most honest day of the year because it literally hits us, right in the face (so to speak), with a stark reality - everything material will one day be dust, including ourselves!” So with Lent, we enter a new mode of being, which is reflected in nature like caterpillars becoming butterflies. The preface of the Requiem Mass reminds us that when we die, “life is changed, not ended.” In the next stage of our being, the only thing that we carry over with us is our relationships, with God and others. The Church gives us this season of Lent to reflect on this and how the sacrifice of the Lord brings us to new life. To ponder on this reality is to embark upon the Spirituality of Lent. We can mechanically observe Lent by giving up chocolate, or the like, but that is really only tokenism. To go continued on page 3
