Pasto

r’s Letter

Dear Parishioners:

As you know, we hosted our annual Italian Family Feast a few weeks ago. I think it was fantastic,

and I hope you and your family had a great time. As you can imagine, that success can only come

about with a great deal of “behind the scenes” work. There were many people who worked every

hour of the Feast! That took a lot of time, energy and commitment. While I apologize for possibly

missing out on a few people, I would like to thank the following: Frank Antonawich and Richard

Maher, our Feast Chairpersons. I also would like to thank the following Feast captains: Rita

Vandenburg (kitchen), Tim Bulmer (Security), Loretta Howe (tickets), Andres Martines

(volunteers), Lisa Farney (gambling), Kevin Hahn and Rich DeMotta (food). In addition, I

would like to thank the Parish Council members, under the leadership of Eileen Rega, for taking care

of the sales of the Super Raffle. Also, thanks to the Rosary Christian Mothers for hosting the Shrine

tent.

I told Fr. Greg that he was in charge of the weather and he came through very well; 5 days of great

weather! I think we’ll keep him!

I certainly realize that there was a whole army of people who worked on the Feast, including many

people who worked every single hour of every single evening. While I cannot list everyone who

helped out, I deeply appreciate all the hard work and effort of so many parishioners. They certainly

lived out our parish motto: “Together, we can do something beautiful for God!” I do not know what

the results are yet because we still have bills to pay, credit cards to process, etc. We probably won’t

know the results until the end of October.

I would also like to thank our sponsors who donated so much to our Feast. Please consider using

their services and thank them for being sponsors when you see them. The sponsors were:

iDELIZIA DELI, MUNCH LANDSCAPING, EASTCO LTD, WEST ISLIP WINES &

LIQUORS, SERGEANT B LANDSCAPING, CHAPEY & SONS FUNERAL HOME,

MORELAND HOSE, OCEAN JANITORIAL, ANTHONY’S PIZZA AND PASTA,

P.C. RICHARD AND SON, PRECISION CONSTRUCTION, CAFÉ EUROPA,

EAGLE SANITATION, FRIENDS OF TOM BARRAGA and DAN HENERY.

In Christ,

Fr. Brian

PS: Don’t forget the CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL. This is the annual appeal to help the

great work of the Diocese, such as Catholic Charities, Catholic Education, Seminary

formation, etc. Once the Parish reaches its goal, the parish also receives a rebate from

the Diocese. Your contribution helps the Diocese and the Parish at the same time.

SPECIAL K

an exciting program for children in Kindergarten!

For the past few years, we’ve been piloting a small program for youngsters in Kindergarten.

Many of these children have siblings in the Religious Education Program

already, and are dying to be part of the program as well.

Come and see the many ways in which young children can learn about many aspects of their faith.

An Orientation Program will be held in the Parish Center on Friday, November 6 at 4:30pm

We plan on meeting on the following dates;

November 17, December 15, January 19, February 2, March 9, April 13, May 18

The Program runs for about 40 minutes.

There is no fee for this program;

To register, e-mail Sister Diane at [email protected]

Golden Wedding Liturgy This Fall, couples that have been married fifty years or more will be honored at a liturgy

on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Church of Christ the King in Commack. The

liturgy will begin at 2:30pm. Couples may register for ONE liturgy. Registration forms

and complete instructions can be obtained at the Parish Office. Registration must be re-

ceived at the Office of Worship by November 6th for the November 19th liturgy. There

will be additional celebrations in the Spring for those who find that more convenient.

Dates for the Spring celebrations will be communicated at a later time. If you have any

questions, you may call 516-678-5800 ext. 207.

Church Census Information The process of updating our Parish Data System information is an ongoing process. We ask that you

please submit any recent changes -- address, family members, phone numbers, etc. With your help,

our parish data information will be more accurate, and receipt of Parish Offering Envelopes and other

church information can be distributed more efficiently. Please mail the information to the Parish

Office or email to: [email protected].

“Anointing of the Sick” Mass. We encourage all people who are ill

to receive this sacrament. We will have refreshments following the

Mass. We especially invite those people who normally cannot attend

Mass due to illness.

from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. Please bring hand clippers, loppers, hand saws, rakes, etc.

We need to do some extra cleaning up. All are welcome; no experience needed!

All Souls Day Remembrance Candle This year, in memory of your deceased family and friends, we are offering a Loving Memory

Candle which will be placed in the Tabernacle area and lit on All Souls Day. This symbolic

light will remain in the Tabernacle area for the life of the candle (approximately a week). This is

a beautiful way to remember our deceased loved ones.

The Loving Memory Candles will be available after all the Masses on the weekends of Oct. 21/22

and Oct. 28/29, and at the Parish Office (Rectory) during the week for a donation of $10.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 631-661-3224, ext. 121.

All Souls Mass of Remembrance We Remember ... We Celebrate ... We Believe ...

During the past year at Our Lady of Lourdes, more than 100 Funeral Masses were celebrated for

members of our Parish family who have died. Their families will be invited to participate in a

special Mass of Remembrance, followed by hospitality, on Saturday, November 4 at 11:30am.

Let us remember in prayer this day all who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith and

for their families who mourn their passing - may they know of Christ’s healing love.

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of yourself putting money in the collection at church.

Prayer

Dear God, teach me to use money wisely so my community and my church can grow.

Sharing the Gospel

When you grow up and earn money, you will have to pay taxes. Taxes pay for many good things that keep us safe and healthy. When you grow up in your faith, you will want to give God some of the money you earn, because all you have is a gift from God.

Mission for the Week

Take care of God’s world. Together as a family, clean up trash that’s lying around in your neighborhood.
