Welcome to everyone in attendance today! Whether you are traveling from
across the street or country, thank you for choosing to spend part of your weekend with our Christian community of believers.
Dear Parishioners: Every Catholic Church has a tabernacle where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. Why do we do that? Have you ever wondered? There are two reasons that we reserve the Sacrament. The primary reason is for the sick and dying. At any hour of the day someone may be in need of communion for strength or as Viaticum (food for the journey from life into eternal life). The Church in its wisdom knew that it wouldn’t be feasible to have a priest consecrate Eucharist every time that a sick person needed it, so they encouraged the placing of a tabernacle in each church. The second reason there is a tabernacle in the church is for adoration. We adore Christ who came to dwell with us in the flesh. God has so much regard for us that he has chosen to continue dwelling with us in the Eucharist. God deems this world worthwhile and good. The fact of God taking on human flesh and living with us for 30 years is evidence of how good God sees this world. So, it is only natural that before Jesus left this earth that He would give us a gift that comes from the earth and yet is divine. The Eucharist retains the physical attributes of bread and wine, but our faith tells us that it is changed. It is no longer bread, but the Body and Blood of Christ.
The most perfect form of prayer is the celebration of Mass. When we gather around the table of the Lord and the bishop or priest consecrates the bread and wine which we receive, we get a glimpse of heaven. We are able to receive Jesus Christ completely in either or both of the sacred species. Therefore, it is more excellent to receive both the host and cup at every Mass that you attend. However, if you are unable to receive either species you still receive Christ completely. Of course we are obliged to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. If you can attend Mass daily I know that you will find even more grace and blessings.
Apart from Mass the grace of the sacrament is still available in the consecrated species. There is a renewal of spirit that can occur in prayer and contemplation. We are encouraged by the Lord to pray always. We can and should pray at home and wherever we find ourselves. We grow in holiness when we allow the Lord to direct our lives. Knowing this, it is always valuable to pray. When it is possible, one can receive added peace and comfort by praying before the Blessed Sacrament. When we pray in the presence of the Eucharist new and profound grace is found. For in the Eucharist unlike the other sacraments, grace is not only dispensed, but the Author of Grace is present. Our parish currently has adoration of the Blessed Sacrament before Friday daily Mass for an hour. The host is exposed in the monstrance so you may come to pray and adore our Lord. In parishes that offer 24hr adoration, like Epiphany and Prince of Peace, silence is normally expected by the adorers. However, adoration may include the prayers of the Liturgy of the Hours, songs, scripture readings, and other devotionals. Our Lord can speak to our heart in many ways, but often in silence before His sacred presence we can hear that voice most clearly.
Peace, Fr. Chris
Question to ponder: Where do you see the exploitation of the poor in the world?

Funeral Notification and Planning
The death of a loved one is always painful, yet requires timely decisions for scheduling funeral rites. Contacting the funeral home/cremation provider of your choice is the first response following the death of a loved one. The funeral home or family member (for those who choose to use a direct cremation service/ society) should then contact, Dan Weimer, the Funeral Coordinator at Our Lady of Hope at (386) 299-4490. Dan will assist with scheduling a Mass or Service, and arrange an appointment with the family to plan the Funeral Mass/Service. Funeral Masses may be scheduled with the decedent in a casket or with cremated remains once the remains are
available. Funeral Masses are scheduled and celebrated at Our Lady of Hope at the 8:30 a.m. Mass Monday through Friday. Memorial Masses are not permitted in the Diocese of Orlando (this means the absence of a body or cremains). A date for a Funeral Mass/Service cannot be scheduled without the funeral home or family member contacting Dan. This policy is in place to avoid scheduling conflicts and assure the availability of the church and a priest. There are brochures available in the pamphlet racks in the church or parish office which speak about the Church’s teachings on Catholic Funerals and Cremation.
Bereavement Ministry (Comfort and Care)
SEASONS OF HOPE - A six week program, rooted in Catholic tradition, conveys God’s consolation through scripture, prayer, reflection and sharing our faith. Each year many families face the loss of loved ones. Seasons of Hope offers the bereaved an opportunity to come together to share with others and can give a voice to your unique journey of grief, finding healing and hope. Our Next Sessions will begin on Saturday, October 5th or if you would like to speak confidentially or register for the sessions, please contact Pam Flesch at 386-788-1316.
MOVING ON– This ministry began two years ago and now has approximately 20 attendees each month. Based on the curriculum and articles that Maryann has written, the gatherings involve scripture, prayer, and sharing the everyday adjustments following the death of a loved one. The goal of MOVING ON after sadness and replacing joy in our lives is the highlight of our meetings. Moving On meets from 10 to 12 in the Parish Center (Rooms 6-8) on the last Wednesday of each month. (Next Meeting September 25th). If you need additional information, please call Maryann Curran at 386-756-2685.
Mission Statement: “Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church is a worshipping and welcoming parish community serving the Kingdom of God. We celebrate and live our faith in Jesus Christ through the Sacraments, and
by our words and actions.”
SPIRITUAL SHAPE UP In Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis calls upon the faithful to live our call as a missionary church. To follow Jesus’s mandate to evangelize all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Mt 28:19 -20). Therefore, for the next few weeks, we will look at simple ways we can work to evangelize and to bring the Good News that we hear about on Sunday to those around us.
EVANGELIZE WEEK 1: WEAR A RELIGIOUS SYMBOL We are called to bring Christ to others and to share the good news of the Gospel with others. A simple way to show others that you believe in Jesus is to wear a Christian symbol to work, school, shopping, eating, etc. This week make it a point to wear a religious article. This can be a crucifix, a medal from your favorite saint, cross earrings, a scapula, a bracelet with a religious phrase, or a t-shirt. Make it a point to wear something that will be visible to others. Be prepared for someone to ask you about it and to share why you are wearing it—primarily to share the Good News that Jesus loves us, died for us and is preparing a place in heaven for us.
Want to go deeper: Read Evangelii Gaudium or at least a section of it. This is Pope Francis’s encyclical on the Joy of the Gospel. Share what you learn with someone you know either at church or outside of church. http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium.html
