FREE GED TESTING The Jackson County Continuing Education Center is offer- ing FREE GED TESTING to those that are test ready from February - June 2012. MEETING DATE CHANGED The Jackson County Development Association has changed their regular meeting time from the last Friday of each month to the last Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be held at the Extension Service office on February 29th at 10 am. All meetings are open to the public. The “Biggest Loser” will be the person who completes all the assignments and loses the highest percentage of their starting weight as of May 10th. WALK TO THE CROSS The Walk to the Cross will be held on Saturday, March 31st 12:30 pm beginning at McKee Baptist Church parking lot and ending at Bond Memorial Park. It is for everyone who wants to rid Jackson County of drug abuse and addiction. There will be a special testimony from graduates of the Drug Court, food, fellowship and singing. UNDERGOES SURGERY Mr. H. F. Fields, 83 years old of New Zion, underwent surgery at the Patty A. Clay Hospital at Richmond Tuesday morning. Latest reports are that he is improving nicely. ARRESTS REPORTED BY SHERIFF’S OFFICE The Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests since our last report: Bobby Ross, drunkenness; Colonel Robbinson, drunkenness; Stanley Spivey, drunkenness; Shelby Parker, housebreaking. HOUSE AND CONTENTS GO UP IN FLAMES The home of Charles Cavins at Tyner was destroyed by fire at 7:00 o’clock Tuesday night. It is believed the fire was caused by an overheats stove. Mrs. Cavins got the four children, all under 7 years old, from the building but none of the contents were saved. The house was owned by Mr. Jack Moore who lives near by. It is also reported Mr. Cavins was in a car accident Tuesday night, but his injuries were slight. February 24, at Connersville, Ind of injuries received in an auto accident a few days previous. Born at Bond, Ky. October 2, 1933, a son of Jesse and Elva Winstead of McKee. He was a veterans of the Korean War. Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm February 28, at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church by Rev. Jim Sandlin and Rev. Walker Harrison. Interment in the Pilgrams Rest Cemetery with Baker Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers friends of family. MRS. SALLIE COOK DIES AT HOME Mrs. Sallie Cook, 76 years old, died at her home at Mummie at 3:00 pm March 1. A native of this county she was born July 25, 1884, daughter of John and Lottie Vickers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 4 at Black Water Baptist Church No. 2 by Rev. Frank Wilson and Clarence Kilburn. Interment in the Wright Cemetery at Mummie with Baker Funeral Home in charge. WILGUS MAYS DIES AT GRAY HAWK HOME Wilgus Mays, 71, died at 6:45 pm February 28, at his home at Gray Hawk after a year illness. Born in this county, July 8, 1891, a son of Andy and Eliza Flannery Mays. Funeral services were held at 10:00 am March 2 by Rev. Riley Maggard and Bee McCollum at Turkey Foot Holiness Church. Interment in the Bennett Cemetery near the Smith School house with Baker Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers friends of the family.
