OUC Administration Building The new OUC Administration Headquarters building will hold the title of “the greenest building in downtown Orlando”. Plans are for this Baker Barrios-designed structure to qualify for LEED Gold certification once complete. The building incorporates a 2,000 sq ft solar photovoltaic array, a solar hot water system, rain water collection for irrigation and other important energy and water saving features. The 9-story, 274,900 sq. ft. corporate office headquarters is located in downtown Orlando, next to City Hall. A separate garage will accommodate 400 parking spaces. The building will provide 127,000 sq. ft. of office space. GEC downtown projects in the vicinity of the OUC HQ include the CNL Tower I and Parking Garage, OUC Downtown Chiller Plant Number One, The Plaza, Church Street Station Ballroom, Embassy Suites Hotel and Central Florida Commuter Rail. GEC Project Role GEC provided environmental site assessment, geotechnical engineering and ground penetrating radar (GPR) evaluations for the OUC Headquarters building site. Our geotechnical investigation provided geotechnical design recommendations for the proposed 9-story building and the associated parking garage, surface parking/drive areas and underground stormwater exfiltration system. Specific components of our geotechnical services included evaluation of a shallow mat, spread footings and several deep foundation alternatives such as auger cast piles, auger cast displacement piles and steel H-piles. Based on column loading conditions ranging from 400 to 2800 kips, a shallow spread footing design was recommended. Volume recovery analyses for the underground stormwater exfiltration system was also important in helping obtain points toward the LEEDS Gold Certification. GEC’s services also included Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to locate any buried debris, abandoned underground storage tanks, and unknown underground utilities. 919 Lake Baldwin Lane, Orlando, Florida 32814 407-898-1818 Fax 407-898-1837 www.g-e-c.com Client: Orlando Utilities Commission Project Location: Orlando, Florida Description: New 9-story facility, 120,000 sq ft of office space, 400 parking spaces.
