Gravity Shift

Drawing on the technology usually associated with flight simulators,Gravity Shift presents a series of life-size projections each depicting adance sequence where the direction of gravity is constantly changing. The project seeks to challenge the notion that the pull of gravity on thehuman body is absolute and can only act in a fixed downwards direction. It aims to do this through creating a situation which decentres the viewer’sphysical awareness through presentation of human movement where thepull of gravity has been dynamically distorted.

Photo Open Winner

Rachel Cunningham is a London based artist whose photographic practiceexplores the construction of myths through representation. She combinesher practice with an interest in art history, especially the place of still lifein both photography and painting. She utilizes the detail gained fromlarge format cameras to explore her fascination with texture and surface,a fascination that is itself heightened by the intangible nature ofphotographic detail.
