AMMENDED COPY OF CHECKLIST

When I used my checklist to see if it works correctly, I found that there were a few aspects that needed to be changed in order for the checklist to be more user-friendly and therefore easier to use.

The first thing I realised is that it is not essential for the CCT fresnels to have barn doors attached – barn doors are used to manipulate the light beam so to have them is merely an option. I also felt that if anyone using the checklist comes across a problem, such as a light missing from the rig, there was nowhere on the sheet to say that the issue had been resolved. To fix this, I have decided to put a “Resolved issue” tick box next to the original tick box. This helps the user keep track of what has been done and is less confusing.

When I looked to see if all the lights were the correct way around I noticed there was one that wasn’t. I had to climb on a ladder and go up in the rig to the light on the bar that was the wrong way around, however my checklist said that I had to completely de-rig it by unclipping the safety chain and g-clamp and then unplug the wire from the socket. I realised that you don’t actually have to de-rig the light, but instead just unclip the safety chain and unplug the wire from the socket in order to be able to flip the light around so that the focus knobs are on the bottom, not the top. The focus knobs are used to make the beam of light smaller or larger, perhaps to focus on a particular prop.

Another change I want to make to the checklist is the font colour of the questions. This is purely to make the sheet look more appealing instead of a large document. It could also help to distinguish the solutions from the questions which would make it more user-friendly. I also thought it was necessary to have a space to sign the sheet after use. There should be a space for the person’s signature or full name, a space to write the date of inspection and also the date of the next inspection. This will help anyone that can’t find a piece of equipment to find out when it was last in the space. I have written the default “next inspection date” to two weeks because the drama studio is regularly in use and so there needs to be confirmation that the equipment is in the space ready to be used. The reason I haven’t defaulted it to “one week from now” is because the equipment doesn’t usually

get moved around a lot from this space, however sometimes there are a few pieces that may be needed elsewhere.

Overall, I think I have produced an accurate, user-friendly guide. There are pictures of all the equipment mentioned in this checklist on the Inventory so I didn’t feel it was necessary to include them here. However, the photo at the bottom is helpful because it has not been mentioned before and so the user may not know what it is. The amended checklist is below.
