Origami IguanodonDonya Quick

Difficulty: intermediate.

Recommended paper: any, but best with differently colored sides.

This model is for the more recent, quadrupedal reconstruction of Iguanodon. Most papers

will work for this model although thick papers will be prone to splaying.

Begin with the paper white side up. If the paper does not have a white side, place

whichever side up you want to be the thumb spike and eye color.

Steps 1 – 3 (3 folds): fold and unfold diagonally first. Fold and unfold two sides together,

then fold and unfold again to the midline.

Steps 4 – 6 (3 folds): fold the left edge over to the line created in step 3. Asymmetricalsquash fold the other side over, then symmetrical squash fold the new flap.

Steps 7 – 9 (3 folds): inside reverse fold to the edge, and then inside reverse fold at the

corner. Fold the very small corner flap up to create the thumb spike.

Steps 10 – 12 (3 folds): repeat steps 7 – 9 on the right side, then rotate the model 180°.

With the paper in the orientation shown in step 12, continue with steps 10 – 19 of theParasaurolophus (15 folds total).

Step 13 (1 fold): the model’s head will be facing downwards. Rotate the model 180 again

so that the thumb spikes point up. Pull out the hidden flap as far as it will go.

Steps 14 – 16 (3 folds): symmetrical squash fold the top flap. Tuck the lower tip under

slightly. How far this flap is tucked in will affect the shape of the eyes. Next, asymmetrical squash fold underneath to thin the arms.

Steps 17 – 19 (3 folds): repeat step 16 on the right side, then fold the model in half. Inside

reverse fold to thin the hind legs.

Steps 20 – 22 (4 folds): outside crimp the neck down, then inside pleat/crimp to shorten it

and define the back. Pull up the flaps near the nose on both sides.
