Our House system is fundamental to our pastoral support at King’s. Each House provides the sense of belonging and inclusion within our College, no matter whether you are a boarder or day student. I know you will enjoy being a part of your House at the College.
Fundamental to our model of pastoral support is our Chapel, the physical and emotional heart of the College. This value-rich culture allows you to develop essential life skills, experience and pre-requisites to ensure your future success.
I hope you will take advantage of the endless opportunities that we make available here for you across the academic, cultural and sporting spheres. E-Learning technology requirementsOur e-learning programme is founded on the premise of 1:1 personal ownership and use of a computer: in 2017 all students will be required to have an iPad for their school work. The College has built incrementally to this over the past four years, following an initial pilot programme with a single Year 9 class in 2012.
We believe that the iPad makes this 1:1 computer ownership goal achievable, given its compact design, long battery life, portability, accessibility, reliability, ease of use and functionality, and the ready availability of educational apps, digital books and services. It is an ideal tool with which to facilitate learning in an information-rich environment in all subjects.
School Manager and ClassroomAn important addition to our programme in 2017 is the implementation of Apple’s School Manager and Classroom services. These features will enable us to make the most of the educational potential of the iPad by enabling teachers to manage class activities more effectively and to focus students on their individual learning.
In order to implement Classroom, we need to configure your son’s or daughter’s iPad before the school year begins on 1 February 2017. This will entail erasing the iPad and installing a network configuration profile so that it is ready for classroom use on the first day of school. New students will be taken through the process of setting up their personal network password on collection of their iPad from the IT Department, so it is essential that all iPads are seen by the IT Department before Orientation Day.
The specifications for your son’s or daughter’s iPad can be found on the College website under Admissions | Digital Technology Requirements.
Cyclone Computers has put together bundles that may facilitate the purchasing process. Visit www.kingscollege.school.nz/admissions/technology-requirements/discounted-bundles/ for more information and to access their online store.
King’s College | Orientation booklet 2017 19
Configuring Your iPadThe College IT Services Department will re-open in the New Year on Monday 9 January: please bring your son’s or daughter’s iPad between then and Friday 27 January for configuration. As the process requires erasing the iPad, please back up all data beforehand. The College will not be backing up the iPads and will not be responsible for any data lost
We will also require your son’s and/or daughter’s passcode, Apple ID and password when you bring the iPad: there are instructions on how to set up an Apple ID on the College website under Admissions | Digital Technology Requirements.
If you have any queries, please contact Stuart Mainwaring, Director of Information Services: [email protected] or +64 9 276 0600.
• For more information regarding the iPad Programme and computer requirements, visit http://www.kingscollege.school.nz/admissions/technology-requirements/ on the College website.
