The Kelston Way

Respect Yourself “Manaaki Tatou”

Post only information that you would be happy for everyone to see.

Write appropriately – no swearing.

Don’t post information about yourself that is disrespectful to you.

Respect Each Other “Manaaki Ratou”

Write and speak about others respectfully.

Don’t post anything that you would not say directly to an individual.

Use appropriate language – think about the audience – writing in Caps is shouting!

Respect the work of other people.

Don’t share any information that you know is disrespectful and hurtful.

Homesickness: It is natural to feel a little homesick and lonely when you first arrive. These feelings will pass

and you will gain confidence as time goes on.

Talk to Ms Ginny and Ms Kanayo.

Talk to your homestay family and ask questions if you do not understand.

Spend time catching up with your friends from your country.

Go out on the weekends and visit the sights of Auckland.

New Zealand Culture words you may hear:

New Zealanders are usually very friendly people.

Some people speak very fast, if you don’t understand, just say “Can you speak slowly

please?”

When you greet someone for the first time, some people may shake your hand – that is ok.

It is polite to talk to your homestay. “Hi” in the mornings and when you come home, and

“bye” when you leave the house (depart).

New Zealanders are called Kiwis.

Please use “thank you” and “excuse me” to be polite.

In NZ we have 3 official languages. English, Maori, and Sign Language.
