Students should note that while the 16th and 17th editions of this text look almost identical in terms of chapter order, appearance and most materials, there are some differences such as the new employability matrix at the beginning of and in the summary of every chapter. There is also new vocabulary and new information in this latest edition which is not in the previous editions. Therefore I suggest that you purchase the 18th edition of our text since this is where quiz and test questions will be pulled. Exams or tests will include chapter information as well as Instructor’s Insights and Supplemental Readings/Videos. Chapter quizzes will only cover chapter information. Avoid the International/Global Editions: In the past, students who purchased these texts found that the material did not match up with the current edition. Please be careful to make sure you purchase the correct text because to buy the wrong text can cost you precious time and money! My Management Lab – PEARSON: Not used for this class. If you decide to purchase access to MYLAB or My Management Lab, remember, it is NOT required for our class. Some students want to have it to help them because it has access to tools that will help to absorb course material and put concepts into perspective. However it also costs you more money and most of us are financially challenged at the beginning (and middle and end) of each semester. If you do want to use this tool, our course is linked to Blackboard which means that you MUST register through Blackboard, NOT directly through the My Management Lab site. There should be handouts on Blackboard that will help you with registration for My Management Lab. Also, if you have questions about whether you want to use this or not, or have questions, you can contact Pearson Technical Support: http://247pearsoned.custhelp.com/ Course Name on MyManagement Lab: MGMT 3720_Organization Behavior_Fall 2018_ DL To enroll, you need: 1) Access to Blackboard, 2) Email address, and 3) Student Access Code from the Bookstore (or a valid credit card to purchase the access code directly from Pearson). When you register through Blackboard, you won’t need the course ID. REMEMBER, MYMANAGEMENTLAB IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS. CATALOG DESCRIPTION: MGMT 3720 is a junior-level survey course designed to provide you with an overview of the management field. MGMT 3720 is a core topic required of all students majoring in one of the many degree plans of the College of Business at UNT. UNT’s Undergraduate Catalog states: 3720. Organizational Behavior. 3 hours. Individual behavior in formal organizations. Cases, lectures and experiential exercises in organizational culture, motivation, leadership, dynamics of power, perception and attribution, communication, decision making and performance, and individual differences. COURSE ORGANIZATION: The Welcome Folder (Dr. Ledgerwood’s video, the Student Information required by the dean and the Syllabus Quiz) – You MUST do these first - before starting the course. In return you will receive 8 points IF you complete everything by Friday, September 7. Chapter Quizzes – You take these second. Each quiz is worth 4 points. Each chapter requires completion of a 4-point chapter quiz. There are 18 total chapter quizzes. All quizzes are open book and open note and must be completed independently and without outside help. Each quiz contains 4 multiple-choice questions over the text/chapter notes but does NOT include the material from that section’s Instructor Insights, Supplemental Readings or Videos. If you do not complete the quiz by the deadline, you will receive a zero. There is no provision for taking a missed chapter quiz, and no chapter quiz will be given at a time other than what is specified in the course schedule. Once a chapter quiz closes, it will not be reopened. Quizzes can only be taken once. Although timed as 5 minute exercises, chapter quizzes are also meant to be easier than exams and must be taken before the exams. For example, Chapter 1 through Chapter 4 quizzes must be taken before Exam 1 over Chapters 1 – 4. Please prepare accordingly. Quizzes over Supplemental Materials – You will take these third. Each quiz will be worth 5 points each. There will be four 5-question Supplemental Video and Materials Quizzes offered during the weeks before each of the four 100 point exams. These quizzes are intended to help your grade and to be interesting, so please make sure you complete these quizzes on time! Chapter Exams – You take these fourth. Each exam is worth 100 points. You will be offered 4 Mandatory Examinations and 1 Voluntary Cumulative Final Exam which is available for those who miss one of the first four exams or if you want to try to raise your grade. Exam 5 is a voluntary cumulative exam worth 100 points. There also will be a two hour fifth exam offered during the last week of the semester which is also worth 100 points. This will be a 100 question optional cumulative exam that will serve as a makeup exam if you missed one mandatory exam for any reason. All chapter notes, Instructor’s Insights and Supplemental Readings/Videos will be included on the optional comprehensive final. For students who have not missed any exams, this fifth exam can replace your lowest exam score and thus improve your grade in this course! If you have your desired grade, the comprehensive voluntary final exam is not required. This fifth exam cannot lower your grade! It is intended to potentially help your grade but not hurt your grade. Each required exams 1- 4 will consist of 50 multiple choice questions worth 2 points each. There are some 5 answer items and typically NOT test bank questions. The optional cumulative exam this term has 100 questions worth 1 point each. Each required exam will be open for 48 hours, from Monday mornings (12:01am until Tuesday at midnight. Exam 5, the optional cumulative exam, will be available all of finals week. Please see the course calendar for dates. Please note that you will not be able to view your exam score until I have completed a post-exam analysis. I will send an Announcement once scores have been released (usually within 1-2 days following the exam). After I send the announcement that scores have been released, you will be able to view your exam score in your “My Grades” tool. Exams will not be released electronically. If you have questions, please send me an email within one week of having taken your exam. CRITERIA FOR GRADE DETERMINATION: Your final grade will be calculated as follows: Welcome folder activities (Completion of Student Information 08 points 18 Chapter Content Quizzes (18 @ 4 points each) 72 points Quizzes over Supplemental Materials 20 points 4 Exams worth 100 points each 400 points Total 500 points To make an A you will need to make 450 – 500 points To make a B you will need to make 400 – 449 points To make a C you will need to make 350 – 399 points To make a D you will need to make 300 – 349 points To make an F you will need 299 points or less. Even though you will have to really work to fail this class, it occasionally happens. When this has happened, typically the person has procrastinated due to “life stuff” which was unplanned. Please put all dates of deadlines from all of your classes on your calendar. I have included one at the end of this syllabus.

COMPUTER CENTERS If your computer crashes or if you need to use a computer, there are many available for you on campus. However, some locations require pay (Gateway Center) and most require that:

A. either you make an appointment with them days before your test deadline or B. you inform me two weeks ahead of time (Sage Hall Testing Center) and I have to submit

the request on their form (with your Student ID, and much more information). Sage Hall only accepts appointments made by your professor. They also require that appointments be made two weeks ahead of when you need the computer.

To save you time, I have provided you a list of all computer labs and their locations below.

This is a 100% online delivered section of MGMT 3720. The Department of Management also offers traditional sections of this course. Please read the remainder of this syllabus knowing that online delivered courses differ from traditional face-to-face delivered courses in several ways, such as---i.e. timed exams vs. traditional exams; additional articles and watching videos vs. reading plus classroom time; independent learning vs. dependent learning responsibility. If you are concerned about these differences or others, please talk to your Academic Advisor or your professor during the University’s “Drop and Add” registration period so you can consider registration alternatives. Internet access is required for this class. General information about Blackboard Learn is available through the “Student Resources” link on the Blackboard Learning system home page. Be sure to check your Browser settings in accordance with the Blackboard requirements or you may encounter technical problems with this course. Furthermore, it is best to use Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari. DO NOT USE INTERNET EXPLORER. IN ADDITION, BE SURE YOU ENABLE POP-UPS AND CLEAR YOUR CACHE WHEN TAKING EXAMS. If you do not have Internet access at home, labs are available on campus. Below are the labs and contact information for each. Please call and make an appointment yourself unless they require that I make the reservation for you. The Sage Hall Testing Center requires appointments TWO WEEKS ahead of the date you want to use their computers. At Sage, I HAVE TO make the appointment for you. You cannot just walk in and use computers. The home page for the labs is: https://computerlabs.unt.edu/ Home

Click here to check for seat/station availability. The Gateway Center Testing Center which charges for testing is for use by outsiders to take exams; it is not financed or covered by student fees – hence, there is a charge of $25 for each use. Suggestion: Please ask if there is a charge to use computers and ask if the lab has a reliable computer and internet connection! For example, the main library has computers but you CANNOT trust their computers not to go down or something else kicking you off line. Furthermore, NEVER try to take quizzes using a wireless connection (such as your phone). It is also best NOT to wait until the last minute to complete an exam or an assignment. If you have a problem with a quiz or an exam, remember that the Student Help Desk is where you should go first! HOW THE PROBLEMS PROCESS WORKS: First, try to take your exams during the hours your Student Help Desk Advisors are available to help you in case you get “kicked out” of an exam or something weird like that occurs. Please note that your professor is not equipped to deal with technical problems students may have with the Blackboard Learn system. If you experience technical problems, you must first contact the Help Desk at 940-565-2324 or [email protected]. They will give you a ticket number which you must then give to me. The steps of the process is:

A. The Student Help Desk can help you the fastest. They will know if there is a problem with an exam (due to other students’ communication) and can help to resolve your problem.

B. The Student Help Desk will give you an Incident/Ticket Number if they cannot

SCHOLASTIC CODE OF CONDUCT/ACADEMIC INTEGRITY/DISHONESTY Here is the link to the UNT Policy on Academic Integrity that governs student standards on academic integrity and issues related to academic dishonesty. Violation for any noncompliance with university policy will be strictly enforced. (Key points are continued on next page). UNT is seriously cracking down on these behaviors. The UNT Code of Student Conduct and Discipline provides penalties for misconduct by students, including academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty includes cheating and plagiarism. the term “cheating” includes, but is not limited to, (1) use of any unauthorized assistance in taking quizzes, tests or examinations including e-mail messages and on-line chat tools; (2) dependence upon the aid of sources beyond those authorized by the instructor in writing papers, preparing reports, solving problems, or carrying out other assignments; or (3) the acquisition, without permission, of tests or other academic material belonging to a faculty member or staff of the university. The term “plagiarism” includes, but is not limited to, the use, by paragraph or direct quotation, of the published or unpublished work of another person without full and clear acknowledgment. It also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling of term papers or other academic materials. RELEVANT TO THIS CLASS – YOU MUST NOT BROADCAST E-MAIL MESSAGES OR COMPROMISE YOUR TEST TAKING. Students may not send broadcast e-mail messages (CC: All Students) to the class. Sending messages without permission is a violation of the UNT Student Handbook and the Code of Conduct. Violations will be reported to the Provost and the Office of Student’s Rights and Responsibilities. This policy has been enforced when students tried to cheat on online exams. Usage of cell phones, iPhones, cameras, or ANY other electronic device is NOT allowed during a test. Talking to other students, taking tests with or for other students, soliciting or giving help in this class is NOT allowed. Copying, photographing, or disseminating the questions in any form is prohibited. Any incident of dishonesty will be reported to the UNT Office of the Provost and the investigation will follow the outlined "Academic Integrity Process" as referenced at http://www.vpaa.unt.edu/academic-integrity.htm . If you have engaged in academic dishonesty related to this class, you will receive a failing grade on the test or assignment, and a failing grade in the course. This policy is intended to protect the honest student from unfair competition with unscrupulous individuals who might attempt to gain an advantage through cheating. Also, just so you know, Dr. Ledgerwood is a member of the Student Code of Conduct Committee. EAGLE CONNECT ACCOUNTS: All students should activate and regularly check their EagleConnect (e-mail) account. EagleConnect is used for official communication from the University to students. For information about EagleConnect, including how to activate an account and how to have EagleConnect forwarded to another e-mail address, visit: https://eagleconnect.unt.edu/ POLICY FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: The University of North Texas makes reasonable academic accommodation for students with disabilities. Students seeking accommodation must first register with the Office of Disability Accommodation (ODA) to verify their eligibility. If a disability is verified, the ODA will provide you with an accommodation letter to be delivered to faculty to begin a private discussion regarding your specific needs in a course. You may request accommodations at any time, however, ODA notices of accommodation should be provided as early as possible in the semester to avoid any delay in implementation. Note that students must obtain a new letter of accommodation for every semester and must meet with each faculty member prior to implementation in each class. For additional information see the Office of Disability Accommodation website at http://www.unt.edu/oda. You may also contact them by phone at 940.565.4323.

Special Note about Blackboard. Blackboard Learn is committed to making certain that online courses are open and accessible to people with disabilities. As a result, Blackboard Learn complies with Section 508 of the United States Rehabilitation Act of 1973, enabling people with disabilities and those using assistive technologies, such as screen readers, to fully use the software. Having been blind twice for a year in duration your professor has great sympathy and empathy for genuine hardships as long as those individuals are ethical and honest in their request for additional time, and reasonable accommodations. NOTICE TO F1 VISA HOLDERS: For F–1 students enrolled in classes for credit or classroom hours, no more than the equivalent of one class or three credits per session, term, semester, trimester, or quarter may be counted toward the full course of study requirement if the class is taken on-line or through distance education and does not require the student's physical attendance for classes, examination or other purposes integral to completion of the class. An on-line or distance education course is a course that is offered principally through the use of television, audio, or computer transmission including open broadcast, closed circuit, cable, microwave, or satellite, audio conferencing, or computer conferencing. If the F–1 student's course of study is in a language study program, no on-line or distance education classes may be considered to count toward a student's full course of study requirement [Title 8 CFR 214.2 Paragraph (f)(6)(i)(G)]. UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS IMMIGRATION COMPLIANCE: To comply with immigration regulations, an F-1 visa holder within the United States may need to engage in an on-campus experiential component for this course. This component (which must be approved in advance by the instructor) can include activities such as taking an on- campus exam, participating in an on-campus lecture or lab activity, or other on-campus experience integral to the completion of this course. If such an on-campus activity is required, it is the student’s responsibility to do the following:

1. Submit a written request to the instructor for an on-campus experiential component within one week of the start of the course.

2. Ensure that the activity on campus takes place and the instructor documents it in writing with a notice sent to the International Student and Scholar Services Office. ISSS has a form available that you may use for this purpose, and it is the student’s responsibility to provide this form to the instructor as directed. F-1 Visa holders may be required to attend weekly scheduled office visits throughout the term. Because the decision may have serious immigration consequences, if an F-1 student is unsure about his or her need to participate in an on-campus experiential component for this course, s/he should contact the UNT International Student and Scholar Services Office (telephone 940-565-2195 or email [email protected]) to get clarification before the one-week deadline.

SPOT (TEACHING EVALUATIONS) ARE IMPORTANT: The Student Perceptions of Teaching (SPOT) is a requirement for all organized classes at UNT. This short survey will be made available to you at the end of the semester, providing you a chance to comment on how this class is taught. It is critical that you take a few minutes to participate in the SPOT as constructive feedback is very important, and it provides information I need to continually improve the quality of the course and it is a huge part of my annual evaluation since I am on the teaching track. A departmental teaching evaluation may also be administered. All students should fill out this survey as well. Most importantly, YOU are my priority! I have made available for you all of my contact information on the last page of this syllabus. If for some reason you do not receive an immediate response from me, please resend or call me! My desire is to serve you both during this semester and afterwards.

THANK YOU for the privilege of working for and with you during this fall semester. If ever (during this semester and even after you graduate) I can help you, please email me at [email protected] or at [email protected]. If you do not receive an immediate response from me when you send an email, please feel free to call or text me on my cell: 214-704-4484 or leave a message at my office: 940-565-3157. I am a College of Business Student Mentor and should be able to meet you in my office located in BLB 379A. Please know that I will make every effort to help you learn for YOU this semester! Let me know how I can help.
