Welcome to our second issue of Orchid Island Times. This publication, by Orchid Island Realty, is published three times a year in an effort to share with you Orchid
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) and Google recently did a joint study on Consumer and Market Trends in Real Estate called “The Digital House Hunt.” The objective of this study objective was to better understand the evolving role of digital media in the consumer home search process. From this study, we pulled the following statistics to share, because not only are they interesting, but they also show the direction home searching is going and will continue to go in the future.

Did you know??
• In 2012, 90 percent of home buyers searched online during their home buying process
• Real estate related searches on Google.com grew 253% over the past four years
• 77% of viewers use another device while they are watching TV
• 81% use a smartphone and TV together• 36% of new home shoppers use mobile and TV at the same time
• Real estate brokers’ related searches on tablets grew 300% year-over-year
• When home shoppers watch videos, 86% view them to find out more about a specific property; 70% tour the inside of a home; 54% watch to obtain general information; and 54% choose YouTube during their home search
• TV, billboards and print channels play a minimal role in research and the decision-making process for home shoppers
• 75% of senior home buyers go online to search for a home
• In 2012, 39% of senior home buyers began their research online
