Discipleship

Money, Part 3

Save up money, “The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.” (Proverbs 10:15) This means that it is not enough to keep a balanced budget, living pay check to pay check. We all know that unexpected bills come. When they do, you need to have money saved up so that you don’t have to get credit card debt (see principle 2 from last week). You need to include savings in your budget.

Also, invest your savings wisely. “Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.” (Proverbs 13:11) If someone promises you a better rate of return than anyone else can give you, Understand that it necessarily comes with a greater risk. There are no shortcuts that lead to wealth, at least not without foolish levels of risk.

Part 4

Be generous with your money. “A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.” (Proverbs 28:22) Re-member, success with money is not all about getting a lot of it. Money is a re-source that can either help or hurt your ef-forts to have good relationships and a last-ing impact on your community. Make sure your first priority is God, then others. This does not mean you should be taken advan-tage of or give financially to others in a way that doesn’t really help them. It does mean how you treat others should be more important to you that storing up more money.

Part 5

Spend your money on things with eternal value. “Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” (Proverbs 3:9-10) Do not consider giving to God a painful neces-sity.. Rather, it is an opportunity to be a part of what God is doing through your church and in the world by returning a por-tion of what he has blessed you with. The

goal in life is not to store up the most money, but to glorify God.

This is just a brief introduction to biblical financial principles. If you would like more help in this area, please consider bib-lical counseling with Pastor David.

Youth activities for Wednesday & Sun-day nights will end April 26 and resume in the fall.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

The youth will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child again this year. Please bring the item re-quested for each month and put in the box in the church office. For May we are asking for a comb or Brush.
