information in the safety rules beforeyou begin. If you do not understand thesafely rules, do not aflempt to fuel yourunit. Call 1-800-235-5878.

FUELING ENGINEThis engine is certified to operate onunleaded gasoline, Before operation, gasoline must be mixed with a goodquality 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil.We recommend Craftsman brand oil.Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio of 40: f(A 40:1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3.2ounces of oil with 1 gallon of unleadedgasoline). DO NOT USE automotive oilor boat oil. These oils will cause enginedamage. When mixing fuel, followinstructions printed on container.Once oil is added to gasoline, shakecontainer momentarily to assure thatthe fuel is thoroughly mixed. Alwaysread and follow the safety rules relatingto fuel before fueling your unit.

IMPORTANTExperience indicates that alcoho!blended fuels (called gasohol or usingethanol or methanol) can attract mois-ture which leads fo separation andformation of acids during storage. Acid-ic gas can damage the fuel system ofan engine while in storage. To avoid engine problems, empty thefuel system before storage for 30 daysor longer, Drain the gas tank, start theengine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use freshfuel next season.Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alterna-tive in minimizing the formation of fuelgum deposits during storage, CraBs-

man brand oil is already blended withfuel stabilizer. See the STORAGE Sec-tion for additional information.

STOPPING YOUR ENGINE• Move On/Stop switch to STOP., If engine does not stop. move the

choke to the Full position.

STARTING YOUR ENGINEBEFORE STARTING THE ENGINEYou MUST make sure the tubes are se-cure before using the unit,• Fuel engine. Move el least 10 feet (3

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTCarburetor adjustment is critical and ifdone improperly can permanently dam-age the engine as well as the carbure-tor. If you require further assistance orare unsure about performing this pro-cedure, call our customer assistancehelp line at 1-800-235-5878.Old fue!, a dirty air filter, a dirty tuel fil-ter, or flooding may give the impressionof an improperly adjusted carburetor,Check these conditions before adjust-ing the carburetor. The carburetor has been carefully setat the factory. Adjustments may benecessary if you notice any of the fol-lowing conditions:° Engine will not idle. See "Idle Speed"

and "Mixture" under adjustingprocedure.

• Engine dies or hesitates instead ofaccelerating. See "AccelerationCheck" under adjusting procedure.

• Loss of power. See "Mixture" underadjusting procedure.

CARBURETOR PRESETSWhen making carburetor preset adjust-ments, do not force plastic limiter capsbeyond the stops or damage will occur. If carburetor presets are not needed.proceed to "ADJUSTING PROCEDURE,Idle Speed."TOadjust presets:• Turn the mixture screw countemlock-

wise until it slops,
